Our weekend respite may be our kids!!!!

My husband and I have been approved to adopt since August 2007. We have been at this for a year. We have been on 7 short lists for children in that time. We were chosen for sisters who were wonderful. The foster parents changed their mind at the last minute and decided to adopt them. We lost them, and our hearts were broken. We started discussing the possibility of fostering. Then we decided maybe to do some respite for our agency to get our feet wet for a few months. Our first respite placement was last weekend. The kids were great. They just fit in perfectly with our family. Then, when picking them up, the foster Mom mentions that rights were terminated a few weeks ago, and they would be legally free by the end of November. We couldn't believe it. The beautiful 4 year old little girl started crying when she had to leave, which broke my heart. The 2 year old boy was smiling ear to ear and wouldn't let go of my husband's neck. We knew this could work.

We called the foster coordinator on Monday, and he was very excited. He has now contacted the SW who wanted our home study. They may move the kids to our home as a foster placement, and then we can adopt when they are legally free!!! They have said this is pretty risk free. Dad and Mom actually relinquished rights at different times and there is no family to speak of. We are praying like crazy this will work out. We will be getting the kids again this weekend. They are so excited and so are we. My adoption coordinator told me to respite as much as possible until they make a decision. That would help them to decide this could work.

Has anyone else had this happen? We never thought this was how we would get matched!!

That is just great! This is how we found our 2 new sons as well! We did respite for a week while we were on vacation and when we came home we all knew that we were going to be together! The boys pushed and pushed and on the 5th day they were home. We are now going through the adoption paper work and all that stuff. So it can work out!Best of luck to all of ya'll!

CONGRATS! I hope things go smoothly for you!

You never know how you're family is going to come together, do you? I renewed my foster license in July 2007 and requested a girl between the ages of 3 and 5. I received an emergency placement of a 7 month old boy (just for the night! ) Well, "just for the night" became a couple nights, which turned into weeks, which became months, is now over a year and turning into adoption. I still can't believe it. It wasn't exactly the path I had chosen-and yet it led me exactly where I wanted to be.

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

Its funny how things work out. When the right one comes along it all falls into place some way or another.

Congrats!
