Question Interested in adopting a girl in Foster Home

Hi Everyone,

I just found this site while searching for info. that might help us. So, I figured I would start here, searching for help.

There is a 10 year old girl that is in a foster home 2 doors down from us. My whole family has come to really care for this girl, but we really don't know what her situation is. We really don't know if she is going to be placed for adoption or what, but we are interested in trying to adopt her if she is. Do any of you know where we can start searching for the information we need? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! We live in GA, if that helps.

Thank you!

Dana

You need to go to an orientation class and then start the process of being Foster/adoptive parents. You could then put in a request for that child if she comes up for adoption. I am not sure if they will give you any information on that child though. Just remember that there are many more children that need homes. Good luck.

Hi Dana,
Same thing happened to us. Talk to the foster mom. She can pass on your information to the social worker or whatever agency she fosters through. As the other poster mentioned, you will need to be licensed and approved for adoption like anyone else, but you can probably still get basic information such as if the child is available for adoption. That doesn't fall under confidentiality but most other information does (like the circumstances for care, behavioral issues, and so on). Good luck! How exciting! Torina
