Question for those in Michigan

Hello,
I am in Texas and have a 2 1/2 year old fs who has been with us twice now, the first for 7 1/2 months and this time about 4 1/2 months. The 2 1/2 months that he was not with us he was placed with a relative for which he was again removed. The bio-parents came up with another distant relative who lives in Michigan 1 month prior to the tpr trial (almost 1 1/2 years after fs was removed). The relative is a distant relative to my fs who he does not even know. A home study has been started and my understanding is that they have completed paperwork and turned in to the state. My question for anyone living in Michigan is do you know how long it might take for paperwork to be processed by the state once it's been completed? We are considering contacting an attorney as our fs has been in foster care since he was about 9 1/2 months old and we are coming up on having him for 12 months. Parental rights have not yet been terminated, but the state has permanency.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Long Road!

FIGHT!! Do not give up if you want to keep him. I am in Michigan, it took us 4 - 6 months for initial paper work. DHS adoption worker tried to move our son and said we were not a good fit. (She didn't like us.) All his other workers said he should stay. Get it in writing from as many people involved in the case that he is bonded with you and should stay. GAL, case workers, counsolers, etc. The more paper trail you have about this the better. It's hard for them to ignore your case if you don't let them run over you. KEEP UP THE FIGHT!!!!

Thank you timleenettesue! I placed a call to an attorney yesterday afternoon. I hope I hear back from him today. I've already talked to him once about 5 or 6 weeks agao and he said to call him back when we were closer to the 12 months mark.

I'm hoping that we can file for intervenor status or something to stop the move if the relatives are approved. I know it will be a long road, but worth it. Unfortunately the CPS office that we are dealing with is very dysfunctional. We would probably have support of our fs CASA and he's seeing a play therapist that would probably support us as well. Our fs attorney has done NOTHING to my knowledge. He won't return my phone calls.

Sometimes this process makes no sense. I'm concerned about our fs being moved again. We were his 3rd foster placement so he has been moved a lot! And he's only 2!

Thanks again for your response.
