My dh works with a guy and his wife and him are just foster they don't want to adopt. Until just the other day they were with the same agency as we are. They have one little girl that I think is 4 they have had her I think since she was an infant and they have another little girl that is a 1 1/2. My dh says he thought that both girls have had TPR. Why has our agency not put us with one of these girls? Same agency, same county, They don't want to adopt, we do! It's not rocket science people. They have been having trouble like we have. In fact they said that the night they went to the oriantation for the new agency there were 3 other families from the same agency there to switch also. Are we getting screwed or what?

I was with an agency doing similar stuff, after we got out from under them the best we could determine was that they were playing with 'things' to keep their numbers ( IE number of beds full of foster kids) as high as they could. They were definitely not doing what was best for the children

Best wishes

That's got to be frustrating! Maybe your husband's co-worker and your family could contact the agency together to get those girls placed with you?

If that is the case why have our beds been empty for 2mo. I called the placement worker this morning, she never returned the call. On Tuesday I emailed our aw with info about 3 girls that I saw on a photolistings, she has not been in contact with me yet. It really makes me want to scream.

Well my dh talked with the foster dad of the girls for just a few minutes today. He said that she will be going up for adoption very soon. He did find out that she is 17mo old and is not walking yet so that does concern us somewhat. She is standing so maybe it won't be long. Do yall think that this is serious or will she catch up soon? My oldest bson walked at about 10mo, my youngest walked a week before his 1st birthday and didn't talk until 2 1/2 years old
Tonight I went to a class at the new agency and afterwards talked to the lady about this case of course she couldn't tell me about the child but she said that we will need to get our application in very soon if we want her to submit our homestudy for this girl.

Is early intervention involved? How has she done with other dev. milestones?

My son just turned 15 months and wasn't doing very much walking, but he'd stumble along with us for a few steps at a time. This week he watched another little boy who was only a year old zoom all over the place, walking like a pro. Now my son is walking every chance he gets. Some kids are slower. A friend of mine said her daughter didn't walk until 18 months.

Everyone said that having older siblings would mean my son would walk sooner, but he didn't. He just wasn't all that interested. I would say give it time.

I am going through an agency as well, but from what I see they really have very little to do with the placements. Yes they can *pick* the families certified from within their agency, but it's the county that contacts the agency about the kids, its the county that ultimately decides if they think the family the agency picked is suitable for the child's needs, and its the county that decides when moving the children is necessary etc etc.

The county is really the backbone to it all and although your agency is there for support I would personally suggest finding a way to talk to the actual county social workers of these children along with their current foster family about moving them. If the CSW is agreeable then they are the ones that normally inform your agency of the plan change and the agency goes along with it.

Perhaps this isn't how it's *supposed* to work, but my experience with agencies is simply that they are great for so called support but if you want to get down to the bottom of anything related to particular cases then you really need to do it directly through the county and just keep the agency in the loop with whatever is going on.

If the children end up being moved to be with you the county and agency will work together to deal with the paper work end of things and that will be that, but going through the agency to get to the county is more or less involving a slow moving middle man to deal with the even slower moving County. Just my opinion on it all.

Well we turned our application in on Monday the 15th. We let her know that we would like to be submitted for the 17mo old girl, but she said that it would depend on when the broadcast went out on her and how fast they could get everything switched over. She said she would call us when she gets the broadcast and she hasn't called yet so maybe thats a good thing. I'm trying to not get real hopeful on this one because we know very little about her. I just keep telling myself that if she is meant to be ours then it will all work out. Right now I fell OK about it, but if they tell us we were not pick or did not get submitted in time then there will probably be some disappointment. It's hard to feel much one way or the other I guess because I've never met her. So it's kinda like she's not real yet, do you know what I mean?

Hi,

we TOTALLY went around our agency. We weren't getting any calls and I knew someone with a group home that said she had two girls that were a good match for us. Long story short she went through the kids caseworker and I spoke with their attorney, and she also talked to their therapist and I made it happen for myself. They weren't thrilled but the adoption will be final next month and we are pretty excited.

I don't participate much here (well okay at all...) since we aren't foster-adopt ready at the moment and not sure about what we're doing next but...

my DS didn't walk til 3 weeks ago, shortly after turning 16 months. And now he's practically running. He "seemed" delayed most of the time til now with all his milestones a couple of months late. But now, besides his pessimistic attitude and temper, he's perfect! Just thought I'd say that to encourage you. I would hope that if needed, early intervention would be a part of her care. BEst of everything... I hope a permanent placement and adoption comes through for you very soon.
