Our situation is a little different b/c baby A was left at the hospital and bd is listed as unknown. There has been no contact with bmom since he was a couple of days old; it is believed that she no longer is even living in this state. Relatives do know of him and have not done anything. There was a permancy hearing in Oct. where is plan was non-relative adoption. We just had our 6 mth case review and as long as neither of the bps respond to the publication we are on track for adoption.

My Turn

Congrats to everyone whom has finalized or, are in the process of finalizing. Best wishes to those of you that are still waiting.
We have our tpr on Jan.23, on the bd. Mom has already surrendered her rights. If all goes according to plan we should be finalizing our adoption 1st week of March. Although We don't forsee any problems arising [haven't seen bd in the 2yrs fs has been with us], I'll still be glad when we finalize.
Happy Holidays everyone!

Thank YOU. We have 4 other kids, all girls. This is the son i've been praying for , for so long. Needless to say he's running things and we all love it. He's had a long hard journey, but it's almost over. He'll only know love and kindness for now on!

We have adopted 2 of our foster children. FD came to us upon entering foster care January 10, 2005. We finalized the adoption October 6, 2006.

Next FD came to us from the hospital at 7 days old, August 11, 2006. We finalized on December 19, 2007.

Both cases were very different as FD#1 had intermittent bio parent visits and a bio grandmother who only wanted her if she got the 'board payment'. All this made the process take a little longer.

FD#2 bio mother relinquished when she was about 6 months old, so this shortened the process.

Don't get discouraged. There were several times that we thought FD#1 may go back to relatives and it was an emotional rollercoaster. I cried more those months than I have in my whole life.

I have had very good dealing with our state agency and plan to adopt through them again. We choose to adopt only children from our state.

Blessings and peace to everyone in the process. I will keep 'adoptive families' in my prayers.

Now, they are both no longer FDs but ALL OURS.

We are now looking for a son, about 7 years old.

SC foster home 2002
SC foster/adopt home 2005

5 children now
bio daughter 21
bio daughter 16
bio son 15
adopted daughter 4 1/2
adopted daughter 1 1/2

Anyone have an update?

I am still in process - have had my foster child for almost 2 YEARS!

Next Steps:
Permanency hearing =>TPR Trial (if adoption plan is approved and bios don't relinquish)=>Appeal (if applicable)=>Case moved to adoption Unit=>Adoption

Pray with me that all of this happens by June (or earlier)....ambitious prayer, I know, but GOD IS ABLE.

P.S. Cannot and will not do this again....

Vernellinnj,

2 years that's crazy. I'm so sorry for you. God is able and I pray that He removes the obstacles in your way to make this child your forever child.

My daughter has been home almost 5 1/2 months. TPR is set for May 1st. Birth mom has been served. We have to place a notice for birth dad because birth mom called him Boo. Boo?! Is that a first name or a last name?

My son was 19 months when we finalized (he had been home since he was 5-days-old), I'm praying that my daughter will be younger than 19 months. We'll see if that prayer request is answered with a "YES".

But this is it for me unless one of my kids' bio parents have another baby that enters the system and I'm at the right place and time to adopt again. It seems to me they treat you differently when they are asking/begging you to take the child, then when you submit an application to adopt a child.

My daughter's case has really put me through the ringer. I'm just drained. It goes without saying this system needs a complete overhaul....And workers who really want and are working on what is best for the child.

I was told more and more birth parent lawyers are filing appeals. Is it so they can bill the state more hours? Or is it because they think the parents can really get it together with some more time? Either one is just disheartening.

I have had Little J since April 2007. She is 15 months old now -- we had her since she was 5 months. The caseworker won't talk about TPR yet. The next review is in April. But things may change since the mother was moved from a county jail to a juvenile facility and took off. Now she's facing more serious charges and may go to state prison. We just take one day at a time. We will be heartbroken if we lose her.

A.'s TPR hearing is this month!!! They have published for both bp's, since nobody knows where they are and we have heard nothing. They have a 20 day appeal period, then we will have our subidy hearing, and we have asked if we can finalize in May and it should not be a problem...we also are actively waiting for another baby!!!

Quick update. As some of u may know we have had our fd in our care since she was 4 days old, she's 14 months old now. She's been in custody of the state this whole time and we have not had a permanency hearing (according to state law it should have been completed w/in 12 months of her coming into care). We had the first judicial review w/ the b-mother in attendance Jan. the 29th (bmom had been in prison for the past 10 months). The b-mom's attorney asked for placement to be modified so that the baby be moved to the maternal aunt, now we are to go to court about that sometime before our next JR which is scheduled for 3/25. The GAL has now asked me to stay out of it, not to advocate that the Dr's order be followed as it may cause that the Judge choose to move the baby b/c we are considered to be advocating too hard and standing on the way of bonding time between the baby and the bio-family.
I am at a loss...
