Our foster daughter came in to care immediately after she was born and was with 2 other families the first 4.5 mos of her life. We got her May 2006, TPR was granted June 8th this year. We are in the appeal waiting period which in our state is 30 days. We could adopt as soon as August if they don't appeal. Neither of them showed up to the trial so it was declared 'Manifest Best Interest' for the rights to be terminated. Later BF claimed (on the phone to the case worker) that he thought the trial was in the afternoon rather than nine am and that we would be hearing from his lawyer. So we are waiting to see if we hear anything. The TPR was signed June 13th so it looks like we have one more week to see if the appeal is filed.
.......waiting.

TPR granted
After an all-day court proceeding the judge issued a ruling for TPR. I fully expect the parents will appeal his ruling and the court date for that is scheduled for early November. Now I wait for the case to be transferred to the adoption unit. We took a big step forward in the right direction yesterday.
The testimony from the parents was very interesting and really fleshed out a lot of details of the early upbringing of all three girls.

I can't sleep..I'm so nervous and very much excited..I guess I just can't believe the day has come to finalize, but he already feels 100% mine..also, please pray for us..we found out, not by dfcs that his bio mom is pregnant again. i left a message w/ a cw to see if they would consider us taking the sibling but never heard back..i'll find out at court since she'll be there w/ us..mom lives in another cty about 20mins away, and i dunno if they'll take this one at birth like mine..i would think so considering this makes #10 for her..anyways, pray and i'll let ya know something after court..

You're in my thoughts and prayers (as are the bio family). May God's will be done and may He sustain you and the bios during this happy/sad time.
Let us know how things go.

Thank you for this thread!
We sort of fell into fostering after having an adoption fall through. We brought or fd home from the hospital as a newborn in October, 2005. At the time the investigator sw assured us that this situation would be a fast-track adoption. (Knowing now what I know, how could she say that? Were we gullible?) That was 21 months ago. We have a TPR trial that is scheduled for early Sept. I just keep on hoping and praying that things work out for us.
Someone asked earlier about going to court. In that state I live in fp can go to court. Between the two of us, husband and I have gone to every court event, and to every 6 month placement meeting. We have made this choice because we only hear snippets of the realities of the case from the cw on her monthly visits. This whole experience has been so full of ups and downs that we needed to have as much of the full picture as we could get. The judge for this case always asks if the fp have anything to say. I always tried to update the judge on this little one's size (initially because whe was itty bitty at the beginning), and where this little one was developmentally I never said anything about wanting to adopt her, because I didn't feel like the court stuff was about our wants. I figured the nonverbal message of always having one or both of us at court showed our unspoken desire. Hope things go well with all of you Thanks again for this thread!

My hopefully soon to be adopted son was placed with us in January when he turned 2. His parents rights have been terminated, but have both appealed. The judge heard the appeal in May and now we're just waiting it out. Our social worker says they have no case and we would have heard something by now if there was to be a problem, but we'll know for sure soon. Our social worker says that the adoption should be finalized by the end of September, so my fingers are crossed!

Welcome Lynn and Sunshine. This thread is so eye-opening. Fost/Adopt is such an emotional roller coaster and can take YEARS. I support reunification where warranted but something should reallly be done about this.
I met a woman in a FP support group who received a child straight from the hospital - child returned home at 4 years of age! She hasn't seen her since..devasting.

90 day review
We had our 90 day review hearing today. Basicly no progress has been made towards finalizing the adoption, the county is still working on paperwork. The judge stated that their last case took 15 months after TPR to finalize (due to paperwork) and was hoping this case wouldn't be like that. When the judge asked the caseworkers if they thought they could finish this up before the next 90 day review they replied "doubtful." What is exactly involved in the subsidy paperwork and why does it take them so long to complete it? I originally hoped to finalize this summer, then was hoping at least by the end of the year...now that looks doubtful too.

Beept- I'm so sorry it is taking so long. That sounds outrageous to me but I know it does happen in some states and different counties. Both of my family's adoptions went from TPR to finalization within 60 days. I have no idea what would be the hold up in your case.

My 4 yr old FD has been with us since March 2006. We have been approved as her only adoptive source, mom signed over her rights before the termination hearing, dads rights have been terminated. Our papers are in to the attorney, actually just spoke with the receptionist today, she is preparing the papers so we can look them over and make sure everythhing is right. So...for us it looks like a few more weeks and it will be final!
![]() We recently lost our FS to his bio aunt. He was in care since birth, and with us from 4 months old to 13 months old. It looked very hopeful tht he may stay, but it just didn't work out. In the end I met with the Aunt, and am certain that he is in a good home and loved just as much as we loved him, she promised to keep in contact, she is out of State, but so far we have only talked once since his placement there. I am hoping to hear rom her soon. |
