Foster/Adopt waiting to be matched
I saw a thread like this on the adoptive parents forum, except most of them were waiting to be matched with pregnant moms. I thought I would start one for those of us licensed to foster/adopt with no placements yet.
We were licensed as of Feb. 7, 2007. I called and they said it would be two weeks before they could assign us a Matching Coordinator. Well I was going to wait until tomorrow to call to let them know that it had been two weeks, but I just couldn't wait any longer. So I called our agency and explained what we were waiting on. She e-mailed the coodinators while I was on the phone with her. Just maybe we will hear from someone before the week is up. The wait is killing both my husband and myself. He even told me that he had a dream the other night that we got a little girl. Every time the phone rings I pray it will be the one we are waiting on. How are yall handeling the waiting times. MommaCass

I don't have any advice, because I haven't figured out what to do! I am waiting for a match right now too and keep hoping for a call (I was getting placement calls weekly for kids outside our acceptable range). We do have a placement of 2 sisters, but they were never a fost to adopt placement. It was a pure foster situation and they are going home in April. My husband and I have been waiting since end of January for a fost to adopt placement, but the girls have been keeping us busy. If we don't get one before they leave, I really won't know what to do... we don't have any bios. It will be a quiet house again...

I am so glad that you started this thread. We still have one last homestudy visit and we will be done. Although, I will say that appointment has been rescheduled three times now and that is getting frustrating. We imagined the wait would be up and down for placement. But not for a completed homestudy. We started in August and have yet to be liscensed ....
I wish the best of luck to you all for your placements. Please keep us posted. It will give hope to those of us in the window seats...lol

My workers and I do have a great relationship. My girls caseworker is the intake person at the agency. She had been calling us at least once a week with different placements they had. I was turning them down - some didn't seem like the right fit and others were way outside our parameters. (I have always told them to call and offer anything b/c hey, you never know, we may say yes). Then she left for maternity leave 2 weeks ago. It has been silent since, so I talked to the person who took on her duties (who I worked with on our first placement and knows us well). She told me that for some reason they were "very slow". They did not have many placements in the past 3 weeks and right now have more families than kids - which they said is not the norm for them since they work with 5 or 6 counties.
She said not to worry, we're on the call list, she loves working with us and she's happy to receive email and voicemail reminders weekly . My advice is to NOT SIT QUIETLY. Definitely call, email, leave messages, etc reminding people that you are ready, willing and able. Hopefully you all will hear something soon!

Disappointment with Foster to Adopt
Our story began 2 years ago after suffering a miscarriage after 4 years of TTC and some fertility treatment. We started classes in January 2005 to become foster to adopt parents. All went well and by March we were licensed. On April 29th we got "the call". We got a 2 month old beautiful daughter! It seemed like it took forever to get the adoption finalized, but it wasn't a bad process. Adoption was final on June 14th, 2006. We got phone call about baby brother in June 06. We tried it for a couple of weeks, but it was too much for us due to having to set up visit with birth mother. She hated us due to the fact that we adopted her other child. We asked that brother be placed in another home. Current foster mother got in touch with us in November 06 and we started doing visits with brother and decided that if she didn't want to adopt then we wanted to be considered, the parent's rights were in the process of being taken. Foster mother consented and we began the process again! DHR worker came out to inspect to make sure home was still safe. Found no problem. Less than a month later another worker came out to do the same thing and jerked the brother from our home due to a "messy front porch"...we were in the process of remodeling the living room. There is something very underhanded going on within our county and as a result, I have lost all faith in our social services. Beware!

Then you get to wait some. I think it depends on your agency, what your goal is, your area, your preferences for the children, and so on. I agree with what Mkuhlmann06 said about not sitting quietly. Each time we finish one step I ask how long till the next and when that time is up I call to find out what's up. Good Luck to All.

rsbg - I see you have two boys also. I have always thought that I would have a girl, I never dreamed I would have two boys. Don't get me wrong I love my boys and would never trade them anything, but I couldn't give up the idea of having a daughter. I so hope that I get a placement before Easter so that I can go shop for one of those beautiful Easter dresses that I have been longing to buy almost 20 years.
Trawyn - I am so sorry for what happen to your family. How long ago did it happen? Have yall tried to get him back? Mkuhlmann06 - Hope you get your call for your boy soon. Joy42 - Keep us updated. Have you been in touch with a placement/adoption/matching coordinator yet, if so what do they do? Rebecca G - Do you have a date on your last homestudy visit. Keep posting you will be one of us soon. B & B's Mommy - Thanks for the advice Thanks everyone for posting, talk to ya soon.

We are the opposite; we have two girls and I would LOVE to have a little boy!!! I so want to have a mama's boy
We keep being told we should be placed rather quickly, the wait is exhausting for me. Even though I would love to have a house full of kids, this is going to be our last adoption. My nerves and waistline can't handle it!!!! |

We've got a placement, its foster-adopt and it looks like they will NOT stay... but for those of you who feel like the wait is so long... we were sort of frustrated because we had everything done and yet we weren't getting our final approval and then suddenly they found themselves in need of a family like ours, we got the call and we were licensed for care and parents all the same day. Many people will even get placed BEFORE they are officially licensed. So, though it may be slow at first, once you get the call it goes by SO quickly.
On the other side of the issue, once are kiddos leave (which looks quite likely as they found a wonderful relative) we are planning to ask for a very specific age range... and only boys. So, we could be playing the waiting game again too. Or, we could get the call for a little girl and suddenly change our minds!
