Waiting for child
We have been through full process. We started in April and now just waiting on homestudy approval. We have been matched with a child, but waiting on homestudy to be signed off on. This has been the only frustrating part of the whole process, everything else has gone so quickly and easily. But we have been waiting 4 weeks and no answer yet. We wanted to be able to start the child in our school, so transition would be eaiser and not start one school and then have to change in first of school year. You would think that they would think about all that. But oh well, so we are just sitting and waiting. And it really stinks. Any suggestions on what to do from here?

ugh...the waiting
We have been licensed for about a week and I feel like I jump everytime the phone rings! I know we could wait for a VERY long time for a placement, but I sure hope we don't have to
Isn't it funny how your brain can know something, but your heart hasn't quite caught on!

still waiting
I hope everyone is doing well. DH and I are still waiting for our forever child. There is a 3 year old we are interested in learning more about, but his cw is still reviewing studies. I really want to stay in state, but maybe it is time to actively pursue out of state. I just don't want to deal with ICPC. From what I hear, it can be a hassle. How is it going with others?

Our cw told us today that the cw of the 14-yr-old boy we received some info on wants to go to staffing. We've been trying to obtain more info first (it's 5 hours away) but not sure if they will do that first or want to give us all the info at staffing. Our first adoption was so backwards I don't know what order it should actually be in, ha ha. We read a 3-4 page summary, then spent two weekend visits with him. THEN we had a staffing (phone conference where everyone played stupid) and received all of the paperwork to review. Odd. We just want to make sure this guy is safe to be around the other kiddos before we invest too much time and emotions in the process.

When it comes to your family you do need to keep them safe. It also seems that it would be better if you were sure before the kid gets adjusted to the idea of being with you. It would be hard for him if he thought you were giving him a family and then POOF!! you change your mind. We had 2 meetings, the full disclouser and a TDM before they introduced us to the kiddos. We were anxious to meet them but now it is begining to make sence why they waited on the introductions. Good luck!!

What is a TDM? We have had full disclosure and are awaiting one more piece of requested information before we meet our daughter. I agree that it is best to wait until there is a definity so that the child doesn't get hurt or disappointed in the process. |

Me too, and if we wouldn't have been so excited to meet our first little guy we wouldn't have been a bit smarter, ha ha! Fortunately, there weren't too many surprises.

TDM= team decision making meeting. They get the county and private agency as well as any FP and prospective parents who want to be there. They discuss placement changes and other concerns they have. At one such meeting the FP for our kids asked that they be moved so she did not have to take them to Disney World (make a wish was paying for the trip). She had led them to believe that they were going until the week before the trip. Then she told them it was because one of them was the "BAD" kid.

Wow, this is slow on here! Anybody found out anything else? We're waiting on our psychologist to read over the 14-yr-olds records and give an opinion, and for his cw to send additional information that will pretty much sway our decision one way or the other. I was hoping to have more info by now. The second time around I don't feel that sense of urgency like the first time we adopted, but I'd sure like to know whether we're going to move forward or put this idea to rest. I have a feeling the state is going to want to move very quickly if we decide to move forward and our cw is wanting to apply the brakes a bit. I can't say I'm going to put up an arguement to that! Just checking in to see what was new with everyone, if anything.

We are waiting on a psych eval on our 9 year old. Honestly I'm frustrated because this little girl was posted on TARE and then went through staffing and then we were selected and then we waited nearly 3 weeks for the file box full of her redacted record. They hadn't scheduled her for the mandatory psych evaluation until our caseworker called to tell them it wasn't in the files. Then they scheduled it and now we have to wait until Aug 27. Because someone didn't get on the ball during all that waiting time already, she will have to switch schools after the start of the school year. Thanks for letting me vent....GRRRR. Okay, I know, in the big scheme of her life this little delay and the school change won't be a huge deal. |

We are still waiting too - we are adopting from another county and for some reason our county is dragging their feet. I really do not understand this as it is not about us, its hurting the children as we continue doing weekend visits and have to keep taking them back. It has come down to one email that they need to send and are not doing. I just don't get it....

That is totally a possiblility for me right now and I am just so scared that it will be that way for us too. How very frustrating. Have you been able to do visits yet?

I'm sorry it's so rough for everyone! Waiting is the hardest part, just to wait some more. Then all of a sudden it moves faster than you thought and you panic because they will be home tomorrow! TX, how are you going to busy yourself for the next two days? GOOD LUCK! Mom2B, I drove our cw nuts calling and emailing each day. Sounds like somebody forgot, which happens. Shelly, our guy came with a psych eval from 4 years prior so we just had it done again once he was placed. I'm not going to tell you that it takes about 3 weeks for them to type the stupid thing after the eval is over. Don't they have a previous psych eval and recent doctor's notes to show any changes? I think they are all just way understaffed and have too many kiddos to keep track of. Our guy hadn't been to a dentist the whole time he was in foster care (how does that happen?)
Our cw just got ahold of "Mr Shy Guy's" cw, who is getting ahold of his therapist and foster mom to find out details of stuff that happened two years ago. I'm hoping it's not as bad as it sounds like it may be (keeping fingers crossed). Hoping to hear later today or maybe tomorrow. Yep, he's been in care for years and NOW they have to track down behavioral issues from two years ago, lol. Ya gotta love it. I hope you all get your results quickly, and that all is well!

we just submitted our homestudy for a little guy today. I'm so new to this process, I feel like I'm learning a little more each day. I think we will hear if we are selected for the formal staffing in about 2 weeks.
