Well our caseworker called today and we missed out on the little girls. They were receiving too many inquires and home studys. So they made a deadline we didn't make.
we are still trying to get more info about a silbing group of a girl 4, two boys 3 & 18 months. They are also out of state so we will see.
Are new caseworker seem like she really wants to help us.
The agency isn't really an adoption agency but a private foster / adopt. But they said that they had more adoption placement connection then foster right now. Basicaly they will play middle man between us and other counties etc.

Jeannie will try to pm you.

Bookworm,

Thanks for the post and IM. I'll have to look in our area and see if there are any alternatives to the county. We've been looking for over a year and a half with no luck. We were really close once but in the end they chose none one. It is surprising how much demand there is for sibling groups. That's good for the kids but tough for the hopefully parents.

Finally Approved now what?

I am FINALLY approved after waiting 1 year and 4 months to get my homestudy completed!!! I cannot tell you how much patience and persistence it took to go through this.

I am a single lady...still hope for prince charming, but not willing to put my life on hold any longer either. Anyway, now that I have been approved, I am a little puzzled as to what to do.

I am going to have my first adoption be an older child age 4-6. The agency I am working with has one they have "matched me with" over a month ago but just needed my homestudy completed. It is a male child. I had originally thought about all girls, but boys are fun too and maybe I want my second, hopefully and infant or toddler to be a female. SIGH.

Do I just take what they match me with immediately? I guess I don't really understand this process clearly. If they only have 1 child that they match with me, do I assume that is my child if after reading all the info on the child, I have no objections? Can someone help me here on how this part of the process works? I would appreciate it sooo much!

Jan.2008 started process
Jan 2008 fingerprinted
Jan 2008 turned in all paperwork
March 2008 PRIDE training
Jan 2009 re-fingerprinted
October 2008-March 2008 homestudy was worked on and approved YEAHHHHH

Now what????

Sent Our Application Today

The end of last month while I was playing on the computer I did a search for adoptable kids in Missouri. I was really just browsing because my babysitter and her adult daughter foster and adopt and my friend eagerly wanted to adopt twin 18 month old girls currently under their care.

Well to my surprise I found a sibling group that touched my heart. Three kids- two girls and a boy. The oldest one wants to live in a rural community and as my username suggests I live in a very rural community. My husband and I talked about it and he agreed to start the process.

We have two biological children. son 4 and daughter 2. I read the profile to my son and he has now named my fingers - each one for a child, including himself and his little sister. It is so cute. He keeps asking me when we are driving to their house far away and getting them because he wants one big brother and two big sisters. I pray we get them.

We made phonecalls and are supposed to be hearing back from the kids' case manager within 30 days as well as the casemanager that handles 3 locate counties about what I need to do to start the process. To speed things up we filled out and mailed our application today.

How long does it take? I am very nervous. What do I need to do to get ready? How clean does my house need to be? I have two small children and work 3-4 days a week right now. I'll be honest, my house is a mess. I plan on thuroughly cleaning asap, but what do I need to focus on? Any advice on what I should do and the steps and length of each step would be greatly appreciated.

That is how we started out, I found this group that just spoke to my heart and I was floored. First off I would not wait 30 days. I would call again in 15 days and then again at the 30 day mark. Let them know you are doing all you can to get a homestudy etc. and you are very interested.

We found the sibling group in mid July and we were done with the homestudy by Thanksgiving. It could have been done a bit faster but my poor wonderful social worker had a family emergency. Also, we paid with a private agency not through the state, but for instate adopts I think the state would work fine.

As far as getting ready, well I would make sure you have the requirements like fire extinguishers and alarms and a locked case for guns and separate for ammo etc.

More importantly, I say this from experience and this may not happen to you, but prepare your heart and if you told the kids prepare them. You may not get the placement. The kids we were interested in when we started were placed well before we could finish the process. We felt at that point that God had a plan and we finished the process. now we are matched with a very different sibling group, but I see so clearly how it was meant to be and I am happy that our original group has a good family and that we will have our two girls we matched with soon. Not trying to talk you out of this at all, just sharing what happened here you may not have that happen at all as your state has way more adoptable kiddos then mine.

LOL as far as cleaning, well do the best you can. It needs to be ok, but I wouldnt say spotless. I am not the best housekeeper and honestly she didnt spend any time at all looking at knitpicky stuff. It needs to be sanitary but more importantly functional for your family.

I hope this helps and best of luck in your journey.

Hi, mind if I join your thread?

DH and I are going to be doing straight adoption through foster care. We're looking for a sibling group of 3-4 kids, age 0-8. Our home study is two weeks away from being finalized. We've already been emailing photo listings we want more info on to our worker and as soon as our home study is approved she'll start getting info on the photo listings for us.

I'm nervous and excited and kind of want to get the show on the road already. I hope the two weeks fly by in a flash.

GoddessDanu - Welcome to the group! It's a great support thread, even though it's been a bit quiet here lately.

We're looking for 1-4 kids between 0-14 years of age, but we're in Canada. We're going to an adoption day (to apply for waiting children) this coming weekend and we're waiting to hear back about a three year old boy we've applied for (we're one of two families being considered).

Hopefully your wait isn't long!

Dawn

Waiting for decision on a boy/girl sib group (3 & 4), a sib group of two boys (8 & 9), a teen boy (14), and on J (11) that we were matched with and then told we probably won't be able to have after all.

Hi all!! Goddess Danu - Welcome to this thread! The people are great here and know what we're going through dealing with foster/adopt instead of domestic infant.

Dawn - I hope you hear soon about the 3 year old, and good luck at adoption day!

As for us, we put our homestudy in for two little one year old boys with special needs, and they are going to staffing tomorrow!!!!!! Any prayers/baby dust/ good thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!
