We are only willing to do straight adoption. I know of people like you who got a placement then 18 months later they lost it. Then they had to start over while some straight adopt couples had gotten a permanent match. So it was a hard decision. I love the agency & I really like Bevin & Claire. I feel like they do everything to help us so I really like it. We did have a rough start with our recruiter, she acted like we were second class because we wouldn't foster. But it just wasnt for us! We are willing for any race, 6 & under. We just updated today from 1 child to 2. One of those has to be a girl.

Our placement which we received in July, like I said, is already TPR, we did the legal risk program with B&C so we had a 99% chance of adopting. Our FD is already switched to our adoptive placement and we will be adopting her as soon as our 6 months is up. She had already been in care for 12 months and her parents voluntarily signed their rights so there was not much risk, just a bunch of stress. I did get an email on a 14 month old hispanic boy in July that was straight adoption, we went to RAS for him but got our placement with our FD before we knew if we were selected or not.
We were ages 0-3 any race, boy or girl 1 or 2. We made friends with a foster recruiter who remembered us when we got our placement. I think it pays off to know people. |

Well I have been to the CPS matching meetings & it didn't go so well. We understand the need for adpotive families for older children. We can't have kids of our own & this is our ONLY chance to EVER have kids. I would like to miss as little as possible & experience as much of their childhood as possible. For alot of families they already have bio kids so they kinda got that experience. I am so torn as to wether we should change from straight adopt to foster to adopt. I have a full time job & am concerned about being able to keep up with the visits & dr.appointments & everything with a foster placement. Not to mention the chance of them not staying. I guess we should just wait & see.

With the legal risk program you can take the much younger children, some already have TPR and its just a matter of paperwork switching them to an adoptive placement. But because they are not legally listed as "straight adoption" they must go to foster to adopt homes vs straight adoption. OR TPR is pending like with our placement. You can say yes or no on a case by case basis but opening up that option really broadens your options. You are also opening up to emergency babies who were simply dropped off with no history or contact info. We cannot have kids either. I am also 25.

See this was never explained to me! I didn't know legal risk children already had TPR. I was under the impression that they were pretty sure it would happen, but there was a chance it would not. If they have TPR why are they not placing them directly into adoptive homes? Thats what I dont understand. What exactly qualifies as a legal risk?

We signed on for foster/adopt from the begining but after we were going to need to go in for our 3rd round of classes to keep our license I said no more. We switched to straight adopt a few weeks before we were matched with R. We were never told that the TARE kids are all legally free for adoption until B told me. We had one emergency placement, we took two little boys in the middle of the night with the hopes that we could keep them. We were told they were both anglo children so we never bothered to ask if they could speak english and they couldnt so we asked for them to be removed. R is hispanic and that doesnt matter to us but speaking english was a deal breaker.
Working with B&C has been great but I am not happy with the agency overall. We spent almost 2 1/2 yrs with them not getting calls returned not being informed of what was going on and we were about to leave them when B & C took over our case. We were told so many things that were'nt right that it was rediculous. I even went to a meeting and my matching specialist at the time asked who i was! We had worked with her for a year! I know how you feel about thinking you wont get a chance for anymore kids. I kept saying I was done but I never quit. I can even see trying for another one but not for a while. However I have a bio child so its different for me. If I were you I wouldnt quite trying. My bio son took 7 yrs to get here and it was worth every single heartbreak and Holiday with no kids that I went through to get him. Hang in there...God has a plan and you have to be ready. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope to meet you some day.

Well I got a broadcast today on a little boy who has TPR 2 YEARS ago. Two years, its so sad to see children stuck in limbo. I mean your daughter has been waiting months & its because someone dropped the ball. Its very sad to see. I mean if a child is 2 & the family hasnt come forward & the parents havent worked their plan, let them be ADOPTED & loved. Its just sad.

Well, we found out on friday we were matched with baby "C"! Its a breath taking moment. Its just so sureal, you do all the work, take all the classes for a child you've never met & for it to have such a great outcome is amazing. We were told it may be 4-6 weeks before we can bring him home just because he is about 7 hours from where we live. It makes me feel bad being so down about the whole thing. The best part is being able to bring him home for the holidays & celebrating as a family. I was letting hope slip away & it was worth it all. Jenkay, im so excited for you! I cant imagine waiting that long to meet your child. Im already so anxious to meet our son & start our lives together. In the end I know every tear & night spent awake wondering why we hadnt gotten a match was worth it. Its such a journey but to finally be a mom was worth it. I hope everyone here as much joy as we have!
