mommacass, I am with you on that one. I soooo want to buy frilly dresses, and dolls and go to dance class and cheer class and all those wonderful things that go with having a girl. I LOVE my boys dearly, I am so blessed, there is nothing like a Momma's boy (or two), but I have ALWAYS wanted a little girl.

shybear, boys are so much fun! i hope you get one soon!

to the others, this wait IS unbearably hard sometimes! But I believe everything happens for a reason, and I also believe that God has a perfect plan and that it will happen in his perfect timing. Hang in there!!!!!!!!

Athikers, you are so lucky you can have placement prior to liscense. Here, meaning with our agency we have to be liscensed before placement can happen. Along with a matching meeting which takes place monthly. So we are looking at a long wait. OH! I can feel the grass growing under my feet already..lol...Humor...I try to keep that going.....

Rebecca, the humor is important! You have to have a sense of humor to get through this process! You have to laugh to keep from crying sometimes!

Our story

My hubby and I have a beautiful 2 y.o. BD that we waited 13 years for. We don't want to wait that long for her sibling, so we applied to be foster parents with the hope of fost/adopt happening. We started the process in October and were approved just before Christmas. We had one placement so far, which only lasted one day. She was an autistic 3 y.o. whose needs were more than we were equipped to handle. We're still waiting for a call. I'm thinking we may have to wait longer because we're in a rural area and our county isn't very large. We're through the county CYS office.

Hello and good afternoon everyone,

Here is my story thus far...
I am working to foster-adopt through DHS in my state CA..I was officially licensed in January of this year. Even though I clearley stated that my intention are to foster-adopt. I have a regular foster license. I need to go through an Adoption Homestudy in order to adopt.
My understanding thus far is the following...
If I get a foster placement and reunification does not go well, and If I am intrested in adopting than I can go ahead and have the adoption homestudy done? This of course does not make any sence.
So with out knowing so, thinking that I had an adoption homestudy already. I inquired about a little girl that is photolisted in Texas. The little girls worker has contacted me all week to get a copy of my homestudy.
I contacted my LW and she stated that I did not have an adoption homestudy but instead had a child interest form and small profile of my family. I said what!?!?!
I asked her what the purpose of that was for? She stated that I needed it in order to get my license..urghhh I am so mad.
Any hoot I asked her if CA did out of state placements and she said that it would work for any fostercare-fosteradoption placements through out the state. So whith that said I went ahead and sent the Texas worker a copy of all my certificates and a copy of my profile, since my understanding is that the child is still considered to be in foster care untill a adoptive family has been found...and the waiting begins.
I am calling my old LW and my New LW to see if they have transferred my case to the adoption unit, this way I can have it ready..phewww. This is the first inquirey that I actually considered serious since working with DHS and a non profit, official coaster ride has been 2 1/2 years..

Our journey so far

You guys may have seen parts of my story on other posts. It feels like more of a journey or a long trip. We have 3 bio, 11, 9,5. We decided to f2a 1 girl, older. We have been licensed since Jan of 06. We received a placement of 2 in May 06 and we had them for 5 mo before they left for a home without other children. Long story and it was heartbreaking all around. 5 months later we got a call about an older girl we had submitted hs for but her needs were way to severe for us. Listed as no issues and turns out she has major rage. Very hard to say no after getting a call finally but I have to think about the kids here already. Finally I get a lead from a woman at school who has a group home about 2 sisters at our school who will be needing an adoptive placement! They have been under our noses since Nov 05! They look just like my kids and seem like a really good fit (not because they look like my kids but that's a cool coincidence). ANYWAY, the kids cw in hearing about us thought that sounded great since they would be moving 2 blocks away and stay in same school - UNTIL she was incarcerated for theft ( the cw that is). Now they have no caseworker yet. The old cw's boss is now holding the case but won't return my cw's call (3wks later). I'm going crazy and I see these sweet little girls every day and wish I could see some sort of progress to feel justified in hoping this will happen.

Hope this all made sense. Really glad someone started this thread in our forum.

I was wondering what most have you been doing while waiting? I have had numerous craft projects and now I need to finish painting the room.....

Do any of you have the room furnished?

Frida, do you mind me asking if you found the little girl on TARE? I am from TX, so I was just curious... I hope they get you taken care of soon!!!!

Tddjc, WOW.... what a story! I hope you hear something soon, that would be neat for the girls to be able to stay in the same school.

Rebecca, our room is done for the most part. We added a room to our house in October when we were going through PRIDE classes. As for the wait..... I am having a hard time occupying my time (more like my mind!) while waiting. I have read adoption books, done tons of research on the net, and spend lots of time on this website and another that I love. I am going to start taking adoption/parenting courses online in the near future. I am running out of things to do with my time!

Mommacass, I hope you hear something soon!!!!

Graciej, I hope you get a placement soon!!!!

We have bought a crib, car seat, and yesterday I could not help myself the BX had bibs and burp cloths that have little army tanks and hum-v's on them!!! They are so cute!! We have nothing set up. We are planning on keeping a baby in our room as long as possible; the state allows us to keep a baby in our room until he/she is 18 months old. If we get a child older than that or a sib set we will move our oldest out of her room to share with her sister.

I find when I am sitting around with nothing to do all I think about is when we are going to get the call!!! I stay pretty busy with my girls; we have swim classes and Girl Scouts, art club plus my normal everyday things. If anyone has some great suggestions to pas the time let me know

Rebecca - I finished my room after Thanksgiving. We have the crib that our boys used, and I found a comforter, bed ruffle, bumper pad, sheet, and diaper stacker set at a garage sale for $10.00. I also bought a wooden day bed with trundle for $15.00 and comforter set for that bed for $15.00. I have about 10-12 pairs of shoes all on clearence or garage sales. I have clothes ranging from 6mo - 5T and a few other small items. I think I am ready.

As far as the wait, I spend alot of time on the websites looking at photolistings and stuff. But there are many times that I am just so frustrated that I feel like banging my head against the wall. Thank goodness I work and my 5 year old has started T-Ball. Otherwise I might just go off the deep end.

rsbg - Thanks, me too.

shy bear - No Suggestions here, although when I start to feel really down and frustrated I will go buy something for our future daughter.

rooms

I finished the last coat of paint today. HOORAY So tonight we sat and watched a movie

But tomarrow is another day..lol....I am shampooing the carpets for our last homestudy visit (hopefully we are still on the schedule for thursday), we have had so many reschedules.

My hubby is taking a business trip out the country and I am going to look for furniture while he's gone. He was funny tonight. He wanted to make sure that at some piont I bought lego's..gotta love his thinking . I asked him if the adoption was just a cover so he had a reason to build things....

Have a good night ladies......

Well, we had to turn our small office/den into a room, so we moved the desk into the living room and the bookshelf back the hall. (You know that song, "Love grows best in little houses . . .??)

Now we are trying to decide what exactly to DO with the room. We're thinking of putting bunkbeds in there because we're approved for two foster children. The room isn't big enough for two separate beds and still have dresser, night stand, etc. But, if we put bunkbeds in there and then get an infant, maybe we'll wish we had set the crib back up. We have a port-a-crib that could go in our room for an infant. The bunkbeds could always be torn down if we adopt and don't need them for a while. I'm sure my daughter would love to have a set when she's bigger or sleepovers, etc. And we're planning to upgrade to a bigger house in about three years, so we'd have another extra bedroom then. Decisions, decisions! Sometimes I think we should buy the bunkbeds and set them up because that would be the surest way to get a call for an infant!

I'm going with primary colors for the room because I thought it would be the most gender and age neutral to make whomever winds up there feel at home. After we have a long-term or hopefully permanent placement, we can decorate to his/her taste.
