Hello
Does anyone know if it is possible to adopt a child from another state if your homestudy is through your county DFCS office? bluebird38 |

Are you talking about a private adoption or a state foster care adoption?

If your caseworker is willing, then yes.
Some states/counties have guidelines - for example, they may require you 'look' in your county for X number of months before they will send your homestudy out... They may also require you to pay for your study, if you accept an adoptive placement from outside of your county - but you can usually negotiate that with the sending state/county. Talk to your caseworker, they should be able to answer your questions.

Thanks for responding.
I am talking about a state foster care adoption. I have tried to ask my caseworker but since I mentioned adoption she hasn't been answering my e-mails. She knew we wanted to adopt, she asked us during our homestudy visit. I guess she figures she'll ignore it and hope that I'll give up. bluebird38 |

We have requested our study be sent in for several kids in other states. Quite frankly, our worker is more concerned about us getting kids from our own state. I know that's where her priority is, she doesnt come out and say it, but I can tell she's trying to discourage us from going that route.
sad, since there's no kids available in our state right now, but some other states have an abundance of kids needing homes.

I am in IN and I want to adopt two relative children in OH. They've already had TPR and are available for adoption. I tried to use a private agency to make the process go more smoothly and faster, but was told that the county has to be involved and if I applied with them... I'd have to also apply with the county and they would taking over the children througth the Interstate Compact. It's not a fun or fast process. I am praying for patience on a minute-by-minute basis.
