I will be finalizing my son's adoption next month and am changing his name, I altered his first name and totally changed his middle. I changed his first name to a formal version of his original name and gave him a new middle name. He now calls himself by the informal name plus his new middle name. I feel that he can always change it back when he is older if he doesn't like it.

I wasn't trying to change him, just his name. His bio parents were more interested in doing drugs than raising him and I have raised him for 1.5 years since he was 2. He was named after both his grandfathers and I eliminated the middle name because that grandfather has never been involved in his grandson's life and he even lost 2 of his children to CPS and (eventually were adopted) before my son's biomom was even born. It's a new beginning and I think he deserves a new name. Just my opinion.

We adopted our daughter when she was 4. We kept her name the same, but changed the spelling. The spelling was so off the wall we didn't think she would ever be able to get it right. Nor would anyone else. I have gone through my whole life with everyone spelling my name wrong, including family. It stinks.
