TPR granted

Well, we went to court yesterday and the BPs came. I was expecting them to contest. The judge read the motion and both attorneys stated they accepted the report. It lasted less than five minutes. It was over. With our last adoption of the older siblings the BP were a no show, so it felt different. BUT, to sit in a courtroom and have a judge tell two people that their parental rights are terminated is kinda strange. We also had our good bye visit, so no more traveling. I am glad that they did not contest, it would have just dragged it out longer.
SO, 60 days until the appeal waiting time is over and then we can move towards adoption. Hopefully, by the end of June.
Just wanting to share the great news,
Happy123

Congratulations!!!!!

I hope the next 60 days go smoothly for your family! I am glad that the birth parents at least realized that the best thing for their child is to let them go. It is heartwrenching but, at least your child has a family ready to make him a permenant part of the family. Our daughters were legally free TWO years ago, but with appeals and staffings, we are only getting them now.

How old is your child? Did the good bye visit go ok? We are fostering siblings ranging from 10mo. to 5 yrs. and are worried how their TPR will go next month? Our 5y/o is already in therapy and I cannot imagine what the stress of a good bye visit will do to her.

standup--The baby was ok...he just fussed because he is not use to different people. He had last seen the BP over a month ago. The good bye visit was just like any other visit. I think because he is so little, he does not understand.
We adopted two other boys (4 and 2 at the time) and the BPs did not show for the TRP date or a final visit. The final good bye visit usually has the SW there to help. It was very hard on the older one because he had no closure.
We still deal w/ behaviors once in a while. He is not in therapy now, but we may visit it in the future.
Good luck and thanks,
Happy123

Our TPR visit - the ** showed up late... So when we all walked out of court, there she was sitting - with her.. um "friend" - male... I'll leave it up to you to decide who he was since the rest of us in court knew (and no he wasn't the father).

Anyway. She had her attorney ask my attorney if I would talk to her. She and I had talked a lot on the phone a few months before this time. I talked to her. She asked if I'd allow visititation. She said she knew that if she didn't contest that it would make things easier for my son and me. I was honest - said I couldn't promise visitation as a psych eval said it was harmful - but I said I would call and write to her.

She cried, I cried. She took the appeal papers and we all left.

She never filed.

Adoption is finalized on April 19th - just 2 more weeks!

Congratulations!! I know that it is a good feeling to know you can move forward. We're hoping to hear ANY DAY NOW that we are finalizing a 2 year old case. I have been involved with DHS for almost 7 long years straight between 2 adoptions and am sooo ready to be done!

Take care,
MJ

I was beginning to wonder if I was going cuckoo!

It has been nearly 3 months since the TPR hearing for our beautiful "A" and we have heard NOTHING from the court! The SW told me that she has requested that the case be transferred to the adoption unit, but that was 2 weeks ago. We have not received the court transcripts yet, but I know that the judge didn't even sign the order until 7 weeks after the hearing! Then it took his clerk 3 more weeks before she even filed it!

There has been no contact from either BP for nearly 18 months. There are no family members requesting visitation. Nothing. She was clearly abandoned.

They wonder why they're so backed up? It's cases like this that should already be over that make no sense as to why they are still making their way through the system.

We are very lucky--in our area, the case is assigned a adoption worker in the beginning. This way if the case goes TPR, it is already assigned. Our adoption worker used to be a reunification worker who I had worked w/ in the past. We are hoping for it all to be done by the end of June. Our SW said she saw no problems that would affect it. I spoke to the BPs are they are not going to appeal any decision, they finally are putting the child's needs before theirs.
5starday--I hope your case speeds up!!!!
