Just curious if anyone has adopted through an adoption exchange? My wife and I have seen so many wonderful children on the list, yet they require discussing these adoption situations with my "social worker".
We don't have one? Do we need one? We have an approved domestic adoption homestudy done by a professional, who is not our social worker, which states we can adopt special needs children. Isn't this sufficient? Also, is it even possible to adopt from out-of-state? Please clue me in. Thank you. |

Dad,
If the children are wards of the state (in state custody) then you have to be approved by the state…and once you approved, you will have a social worker. Each state and each county has its own requirements on what you must do to gain state approval. I suggest you contact the “Department of Children and Family Services” or whatever it is called in your state, for more information on becoming a “straight adoptive home” thru the state.

Hi,
Brandy is right, you WILL need a social worker unless the person who did your homestudy is willing to speak with other agencies and meets the requirements for that. I have been matched with a sib group from the adoption exchange (we chose not to move ahead with it), they were out of state. We've also been the second family twice in matchings, again out of state. |
