Single Parent questions..

Hi,

I am a single foster to adopt mom and was wondering what the process would be if I ever were to get married either while I was fostering or even after adoption? If I adopted a child and then got married, could that person adopt the child?

One of my friends asked me the other day about it and I started wondering myself!

Thanks!

If you were fostering, your dh would have to go to classes and pass the hs. If you wanted him to adopt your child, he would have to get an approved hs and hire an adoption lawyer to do the paperwork, just like you will.

this varies by state, but if your adoption

is already final, then he would just have to do a step parent adoption which isn't as detailed or costly (it doesn't require a homestudy in most states)

If you are fostering he may depending on the agency have to go through the classes and everything before he ever spends the night or moves in. Actually, here locally if your placements haven't been with you long and you are getting married they move the kids and close your house for about the first year of your marriage....If it has been a while since the kids moved into your home and/or they are foster to adopt they usually work more with you. It will delay the adoption here locally. each state and agency can be really different though.
