Because of Winn Dixie
Have you seen this movie? I took the kids to see it last night and I was surprised at how deep it was. I thought it was more of a feel good family movie and it was, but the main character was learning how to deal with the fact that her mom left her with her dad when she was 3.
It was a really, really good movie.

what ages
Looks like you have a broad age range of kids - what ages do you think it was best for. We're debating possibly going to the movies tonight if we're not buried in snow

I took my two youngest to see it. My son, age 13, thought it was too kiddified for him (it wasn't, but it isn't cool for him to say he liked a kid movie). My daughter, age 8, enjoyed it, but she didn't understand the depth of it. She is developmentally delayed, so I think thats part of it. She enjoyed it, but only saw it superficially. I, on the other hand, loved it. I cried and laughed.
It is quite deep. Children may not understand the story behind the story. It isn't just a story about a cute dog, its about relationships and how to dog brought out the best in everyone. I think its an across the board movie age wise. Go see it if you can. And - the dog is really cute too. |

be forwarned
this movie can bring up some issues with our kids. It could be a great movie if our kids have already dealt with birth mom issues and just reinforces some stuff. but for some kids who have not completly dealt with the abandoment issues...be careful, some children have regressed terrible. i just felt like i needed to put the other side in...my sons RTC brought the kids, and they are paying a price for it... ![]() |

Random question for those who have seen it: How was Dave Matthews' acting?
![]() Our friends foster girls found some issues with the movie. No regression, thankfully, but lots of questions that the Foster Parents were thankfully able to answer most of, so, my advice would be to BE PREPARED for questions after the movie. But really, how was Dave Matthews' acting? Cracks me up. DJM, an actor. Ha.

Dave Matthews was great, IMO. Who would have guessed him at being an actor in this movie, a kid movie none the less!!!
As far as issues for foster children, yes, I can definitely see where that could be a problem. The little girl's mother up and left (aka abandoned) her with her father. I think you do have to think about where your child is in terms of dealing with that. |
