Medical Insurance while fostering

My wife and I are going to be adopting via foster to adopt, and we were wondering if anybody was able to add the foster child to their own medical insurance, or did they have to use the state provided insurance (Medical in California)? We just figured that we would have to have them use medical, but recently someone told us that we could have them added

You can have the child/children added to your policy IF you actually have the pre-adoption paper works which states the children will be adopted by you.... Sometimes it can be difficult with some insurance companies to get them to understand but there is a federal laws that allows the child to be added so long as it is very clear you are adopting them.

You may also have the child retain the medical and have them on your policy at the same time. The medical should be offered to the child until age 18 without qualifying as this is part of adoption assistance. When you have double coverage your personal insurance will pay first and any unpaid 'COVERED' costs would be picked up by the medical... This is real nice with perscriptions.
