He's OURS NOW!

Hi everyone.
Its finally official. The SW called me tonight with good news. He is officially our foster son now. He will be permanently placed the 10th. Although he is here now, he was supposed to go back the 6th but things have gone se well, he doesn't have to go back. We are so happy. We are going to take him back for one day to say goodbye to his classmates and foster mom. But the SW didn't want him to go back for an overnight trip. She said it would not be wise, seeing how well he has attached to us and it would be a shock to him from that environment to this one. So now we can breath. We were so scared she was going to change her mind and say she wanted him back. But the SW said she had her chance and passed it up. Now she is being very cold to me, but I understand. She had him for over a year and needs to grieve.
But I wanted to share the great news! it's weird. It doesn't feel real. It all happened so smoothly and fast.

That's great! I'm glad he has a chance to say good-bye. Don't forget to take pictures for him!

Hi awaiting,
I am so happy for you. I am hoping that's how things will go for us and K. Our pre-placement meeting is on the 11th, then we are heading to his town (4hr drive) for the weekend on the 19th. The 19th is the first time that we will meet him and the environment should be a good one since it is an "adoption event" in their county. we are going to a science museum with other prospective adoptive parents and the foster kids in that area. Since your son won't be going back to his previous foster home, had be brought all of his clothes/toys with him to your house for the "visit"? Did he bring a lot of stuff? We had thought about taking one of our dogs (the best behaved one!) to sort of break the ice with K if/when he visited us in the hotel. What do you think about that? Was it sort of awkward when you first met your son? K is 11, so we aren't sure how to break the ice with him! I got him a GREAT UK basketball sweatshirt. Should we take some games with us? Ok, enough questions! Congratulations again and please let us know how things are going!

He didnt really bring that much with him. He was only supposed to be here for 12 days then go home. But it has ended up permanent. He will get the rest of his things when we go back for the last time. Whick sorta sucks. He starts school Monday here and has barely any clothes. But he and my son are the exact same build so they will share!
As for bringing your dog. He is 11, that sounds like a good idea. I think it would give him a chance to bond with it and have something to hug. I know B LOVES our cat. Almost too much. I found it in his dresser yesterday! (still alive), but not thrilled.
I think games are a good idea. Maybe even go to a movie. Find something that you can all enjoy together. Like when we went for our first visit, we found an arcade. We all had a blast. Do something that you all can do together.
Good luck. Our placement went so fast. And was unexpected to move so fast.

Awaiting: I am excited for you! This is awesome.

My A. has been here for 10 days straight. She does not want to return, but I have to encourage her to go and finish this closure. She will go back tomorrow and return in two weeks for ever. I wish it was sooner because this change will do a number on her. She is finally adjusting well here.

kpospis: I am excited for you and K. Best wishes on the 19th and take it one step at a time. At my first visit, I took a box of puzzles(6) that I got from Zellers. A. and I did one together. It was an ice breaker. I can see your dog being a good ice breaker. Whatever you do, take it one step at a time and breathe. Have fun.

Congratulations Awaiting. I was hoping to see good news from you on my return to the boards. My son had his tonsils out last week and I have been home with him.

kpospis,
Good luck and have a great time meeting your son. I think bring your dog as an ice breaker is an awesome idea.
