Thumbs up Visits with old foster parents +

This week Raj went to see his Mommy L, his previous foster mother for 1.5 + years. Up to this point we've been talking to her on the phone, even though she lived less than 10 blocks away.

We were waiting for Raj to be ready to see her. Which he definately was one day when we drove by her house (which is on one of the main through streets in our town and on the way to everything) he shouted out stop stop I have to tell Mommy L. I'm getting adoption. So we then called her when we got home and she told us to stop by anytime.

So the next time Raj wanted to stop we did. It just so happened that they were on vacation, but this week we finally got to see her.

It was such a positive experience for him, seeing where he lived before he came to us and seeing that yes, Mommy L still loves him.

For me it was wonderful: I got to see the pictures of him when he was 2 yrs old. She also filled me in on so much that I really missed out on. I was able to fill her in on all of the things he's been doing lately. We took some pictures and will definately stop by again to bring Mommy L the pictures.

She is just such a wonderful wonderful woman. She's even coming to his adoption party.

I would encourage everyone who has the option to visit previous foster parents to do so.

The visit must have meant the world to his foster mom. That was such a compassionate thing you did for her and your son! Did you ask her for pictures to keep? I always make duplicates and put them in an album for when my children move on. Whatever portraits they have taken at Sears always go with them as well. It's so important for children to have tangible moments from their past and I know it means a lot to the adoptive or biological families.

Congratulations on your impending adoption.

wow

WoW!!!!!!!!!!

You are a wonderful Adoptive Parent! Your child will be able to adjust easily. I wish the children that I cared for in my home would have got a mom like you. If you continue to appreciate him for all of his past he will feel no shame of his past. Keep up the great work. Please work hard to educate other adoptive parents.
