We have been doing shelter care for our son since he was 6 weeks old. They are now changing him from shelter to foster/adopt. That is what we have been approved for and when we recieved him into our home we thought that he was already foster/adopt and that we were the ones that were chosen. Come to find out we had only been doing shelter care and they are now going to be doing his placement. They have one other family that has said that they would like to be considered for placement of him. What I am wondering is what our chances are to be the ones that are chosen to be his foster/adopt family? His goal is non-reunification. basicly adoption!!! But would they take him out of our home after he has been here for almost two months and is doing wonderful! He has gained about 5 lbs and is now starting to gibber and do the things that a child his age should be doing? He was born addicted to meth and pot. with meth and pot still used after he was born while being breast fed. Can anyone give me any insight to this? Thanks!

They can do either - place him somewhere else or leave him with you. That a child has bonded with a parent figure sometimes sways the workers and sometimes doesn't. Only time will tell.

Just to let all of you know we are now his foster/adopt family and we will be going into the court this week for his parents rights to be terminated so that we can adopt him. I would like to say more but can't just that his parents will be unavailable for a very long time. Thanks everyone for writing.

That's wonderful Misty!!!!!! I am so happy for you. I've been praying that DCFS would get their acts together and realize that he should be left where he belongs. Praise God!
