Ready to be Matched

HI, I registered with this forum just as we were starting our Mapp classes. We have commpletd them and our homestudy and are awaiting a match.

I have a Question, we have inquired on several children and after speaking to thier case managers and sending them our homestudy, the case managers never call us back. We are wondering if there is somthing in our homestudy that is "turning them off" on us. We both work full time so I am wondering if that may be it.

So, I am wondering if any of you might know what some of these case managers are looking for? Anything specific?

We have a huge family and support group, but have no children of our own. Our "wanted" age range is 2-8 and all the children we have inquired on are in that range. I am just wondering if any of you might have some insight.

Hi and welcome! I'm jumping over from the Texas forum but thought I'd respond back to you. There will be many many times that you won't hear anything back. It could be that they haven't even started to look at the homestudies or hundreds of reasons. I spoke once with a caseworker and asked her what she looks for in the homestudies and she told me there are all sorts of things that she looks for but it is always case specific to the children. Working full time isn't a downside although for some it's a plus if there is a stay at home parent. You know there are always other issues with these children that we do not know about. Sometimes there may be a pending issue, or relatives in the area they want to keep close to or one even didn't choose us because we weren't close enough (in their opinion) to their therapists. Don't think there is just one reason of why they don't like your homestudy. I used to do the same thing, and then I would read on this board how a family was selected for 2 different groups and they would be able to choose. It was hard enough for us to get selected for one! Waiting is the hardest part. I can't stress that enough. It is so hard and it will seem like forever. Even looking back now it was hard. Yes it is worth it in the end, but when you're waiting I hated to hear those words, no offense meant to anyone. It just was a double edge sword, I was happy for everyone who were matched and moving forward and depressed because we were still waiting. But there are those on these boards that have been waiting years. We were in the process 2 years now and will have placement tomorrow, but that 2 years was also going through the process so the waiting part was really about a year. Good luck and I'm interested how others experiences have been.

Wow, thank you for responding! I never realized prior to this experience how impatient I really was (not with people but with TIME). I have learned a lot about myself during this process.

Just an update we have been chosen for a match meeting. Even if we don't get chosen (although we would be so grateful if we are) at least we know now that there is nothing wrong with our home study. We were narrowed down out of 50+ families. So that has made us feel a lot better about our homestudy being our there.
