I have been going nuts!
I had been trying to pin down the date of our MAPP classes because my DH and I lost a lot of our paper documents in a flood. Our stuff was in storage during one of Florida's famous waist high floods. By the time the water dissipated...and we were able to get into our storage unit...everything paper was black mold...medical records, family photos art / posters, school yearbooks. We had to throw out things that were unrecognizable to us. We did not even know if one of those papers was our MAPP certificate. We were told ( about 5 yrs back) our MAPP certificate would be good for 5 years, but now since Florida has been privatized, we could not get anyone to tell us if it is still good, or if all that has changed now. We could not verify the exact date, no longer having a record of it. Plus the old posts where I had been panicking over MAPP must be archived. No one in Orange county knew and Seminole has not gotten back to us. We had been anticipating needing to do MAPP again. IF it was over 5 years ago, but if it was less than 5 years ago, we thought me may not need to do it again. My DH just found our MAPP certificate and it is dated: February 9th 2004. That would make February 9th 2009 5 years to the day. Does anyone who has fostered, Fostered-Adopted, or Adopted through Florida with a MAPP completion know if that would be a good certificate 5 years to the day ... OR...a good certificate through that 5th year? ![]() Please help!!! If you are experienced with Florida's system, any and all input would be appreciated!! Thank you. We didn't take any kids this last licensing year and we were told we have to re-take MAPP before they will license us again. So we will not be doing care in Florida again. This is ridiculous. We've take care of over 60 children and decide to take a year off - now we have to start clear over???? Not happenin. Our county is down to about 10 families now - and will be down even further by the time they finish 'running us off'! And they advertise for homes!!!

OMG! Amahmama..how can they do that? How is that in the best interest of the children?
I really do not understand procedure, do you have to get licensed every year? I understand you took a year off...but what is the procedure (other than fostering) if any, to upkeep your license? Is there some kind of test every year, or is it strictly to continue care year round? Thank you for sharing, and your reply. Love & Light, Tee |
