FL Medicaid-why cancelled???!!!

I need some help I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Alexis, whom we adopted in July, has an adoption subsidy agreement we made with Idaho which includes Medicaid til age 18 (her medicaid is Florida Medicaid-that was transferred back in January 2008). Well, in December 2008 her Medicaid was terminated in Florida and they stopped paying for her therapy which is causing a big problem. Her counselor says she's been calling around trying to figure out what is up and nobody seems to know why it was cancelled! My husband tried calling them back in October and they stated that they could NOT view the file because she was still considerd "foster" and it was sealed, therefore they couldn't help him.

So, I'm at a loss as to what to do. Anyone have any ideas on a contact or somewhere to call to figure out what is going on? Nobody at the agency seems to know what to do!!!

When I call the 1-866 number for Medicaid I get placed on indefinite hold and then disconnected.

HELP!

I might try calling the Idaho dept that deals with the foster/adopted children's medicaid. with all of the states going broke, I feel that more and more of this will be happening. The other thing I might try is getting in touch with your state representatives office. I would write and call until I got an answer. I did have some luck once in getting things straightened out at that level - as they knew where to contact which shortened the red tape considerably.

Not much help - just a suggestion. Good Luck.

I agree with Ahahmama above about contacting your previous state. We adopted from Fl and moved to Indiana. We had problems with medicaid here in Indiana and had to go back through Fl. to get the problem taken care of. Where are you in Fl? There are different agencies in different regions overseeing the state's adopted children.

She doesn't have Idaho Medicaid anymore. They closed that out when she moved here. She has Florida Medicaid and has had that since January til December when the cancelled it. Idaho really has nothing to do with the Medicaid so how would calling them help? They only give us the adoption subsidy check each month.

There is obviously something wrong. I don't think Fl. would just cancel your medicaid for no reason. There is an error or a glitch in the system somplace. When that happened to me, I just started from the beginning and worked forward until they found the problem. In Fl. there are different private agencies in different regions that administrate the paperwork for foster and adoption. Last summer, The YMCA out of Sarrasota County stopped administrating FC and Adoption in Pinellas county and I stopped getting my adoption subsidy. It took a couple of months to get it straightened out. Do you know what privite agency in your area administrates the paperwork for you?

Did you call this # 904-353-2100

I think there is an option for an operator when you call...Press that option....

I had a problem with one of my kids medicaid and I cannot remember the direct # to the Foster Care Medicaid person or her name...but she helped me out and straightened everything out

Try calling that #..If they don't answer keep calling and then ask to speak to the person who deals with Foster Care...I know she isn't still Foster Care, but they keep the records....Also if you get a VM, leave her a message, she will call you back.....Make sure leave her Medicaid #, she will already have the info looked up when she calls you back,

I'm gonna keep looking for the direct contact # though....

Thanks so much! I will try calling today. According to Boys Home (counseler) she tried calling around (FSS and Medicaid) and they claim they have no idea what is going on. I need to figure this out myself to make sure because I am not just giving up. She's only 9 and she needs the medicaid to cover her therapy. Thanks!

Well hubby called Friday about the medicaid...to the local DCF office. Spoke to someone whom said they file was listed as "confidential" and she could not access any part of it. I guess she's still considered "Foster care" and not moved forward. So, the lady is helping him figure it out by getting with her supervisor. If she doesn't call him back by Tuesday he's to call her back again. I think the best thing for us to do is to get with the Idaho SW and figure out from there what is up with it all.

Thanks Farrah for the number. It is hopefully going to get us in the right direction!

From my understanding it will always show foster/adoption. That is not going to change. Any changes have to be made through the agency that handled the case. Who handled things on the Florida end for you adoption? You need to call them. That is what we had to do after our adoption was final and we where having issues. We called DCF Medicaid and got the same confidential stuff that they told you. We where told to call our agency. I thought that was strange since the adoption is done and we don't have an agency anymore. But we called the agency that did our adoption and they took care of the problem.

I'm not in FL but had some issues here in GA. What happened here was their old # was canceled and a new # was sent to us much later. I called and was told they were foster so I couldn't get info. Turned out that there are several different Medicaid plans/groups. Foster care, adoption, public, disabled, etc. You are given a # from a certain plan/group and when things change you must be given a new number from your new plan/group. I am sure once you find the right person you will be given a new number that was supposed to have been sent to you in a timely manner and wasn't. Good luck. Our therapist was able to back charge all their visits to their new #.

I think our situation is different because ours was an ICPC adoption and the adoption subsidy comes from Idaho but the adoption was finalized here in Florida. Since the SW in Idaho didn't send the 100B (ICPC form to close out the foster care file) it messed everything up in the system.

Update....

Well, we finally got ahold of someone at Medicaid that KNOWS what they are doing! After numerous calls and getting "We're sorry all of our representatives are busy. Call back later" messages hubby finally got ahold of someone.

Seems they cancelled the medicaid because she was adopted and we are relatives of her. Since she came from another state they didn't know about her adoption subsidy with Idaho, therefore they asked us to reapply for benefits just for her and that should work. Well, I did that online last week and yesterday hubby got another call from them saying "Since you adopted her you are financially responsible for her" and he proceeded to let them know she has an adoption subsidy agreement in force. The guy then said "Oh that changes everything!" and said he'd call hubby back. Hopefully that will resolve it but I'm not so sure it will! I'll keep fighting though

WOO HOO YIPEE!!!

Got the letter today saying Medicaid is approved.

Only thing is they approved our entire family! Strange but OK

And they only approved from March 2009 forward...oh well all those therapy claims from Nov til March will have to be worked out somehow!

Just glad it's now approved.
