Heart Central Florida Help Needed Please!

My Dh and I completed MAPP (adoption) a few years back. I am hoping our Class Certificate should still be good. We were told it lasts 5 years, and it is within that amount of time. We never had our home study for health reasons, and went in another direction. We are considering switching to Fostering.

A few years ago Florida privatized and we were unable to find any of our MAPP contacts.

Can someone in the Orlando area point us in the right direction, regarding who to speak to to find out if our MAPP classes would still be in good standing? If we don't have to, we don't want to go through the 8-10 weeks again, unless we have to in order to switch to Foster? What is the true difference between adoption and foster MAPP classes? I seem to remember it was CPR, but I don't know if that has changed.

Can anyone point us in the direction of an Orlando agency (or any area in Central Florida if that is allowed) that you were happy with? I understand re-unification is the goal, but if that is not at all possible adoption would then be our goal. Which agencies worked well with you, who did their research to find if there was no surprise of "long lost family members"? I feel for the member Cris here that I believe it was.

Any and all input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure who to tell you to contact, but when I took MAPP training we had both foster and adoptive couples in the same class. There was only one MAPP class. You have to complete other requirements if you want to foster, but they are not part of the MAPP class.

Good luck!

Thank you hunterfamily...

...I am smiling at your signature...with all the kiddles you've been loving!

When we had our first class, the class was huge. During the class, they asked who was there for foster and who was there for adoption. I always assumed the two groups broke off into separate classes. Our class was much smaller by class two, and everyone there was there for Adoption. Unless that was a coincidence, and others dropped out, or changed their mind.

How long ago were your MAPP classes, and were they in Central Fl? I see you have several children. Were you happy with your agency? I don't know if you want to say who you work with I am guessing that is too much info to post publicly (for privacy reasons) please hunterfamily maybe you can pm me and tell me who is good to work with?

Also if anyone knows the central fl area, and the answers to my questions, please post!

Thank you!

Edited to Add:

I just realized how recently your little boy was placed in your home. Best wishes for a successful placement!

Thank you!

I am in the Tampa area, so I really don't know much about the Orlando area agencies. We are happy with our agency, but I don't think they have same agencies in your county. We did our classes with the YMCA, about 2 years ago. We took saturday classes. It was three or 4 weeks and we where there most of the day.
I will pm you the name of the oranization that was given the contract in your county. They have information on there web site about MAPP classes. I believe they have the Sat. classes.

Good luck!
