Question Can a private home study be used??

for an adoption going through the county?? We are pursuing an adoption through the county in which the child is located, she is in FL and we are in NY but her caseworker (who is impossible to get in touch with grrrr) just told us we needed to hurry up and get a home study completed.
What is the difference between a private home study and one done through an agency?? The social worker who is doing ours says her fees are 450.00 for a private one and 1200 to go through an agency. Why such a big difference?

Well, I can remember when we wanted to speed up the process to get our niece here (Florida) from Idaho (via ICPC) and scheduled a private home study which would have cost us 1200. Well the 1st MAPP class we went to we asked the teacher doing the class if the agency would accept the private home study and she said "probably not" which made us cancel the private home study and let them do ours instead (which BTW cost us 0.00 except for the 22 for the fingerprinting)....

So before you spend ALOT of money make sure the county will accept the private home study. Some do, and some don't....

It doesn't hurt to ask, but I would bet they won't take a private homestudy. Most homestudies have to be done a child welfare agency or whomever they contract out too.

Red face Private Homestudy

We have a private homestudy done because the one that the state did stinks. We have submitted to for a state adoption and were picked, We changed our minds on that one. The state agency that deals in this area will do our update for us. A homestudy should be just that, it should not matter who did it as long as it is an acredited agency, All you can do is ask.

We also are in FL. You might be able to use some parts of the homestudy. Plan on redoing most of it.

When we went from domestic adoption to foster parenting we had to totally redo our homestudy. Yes, the domestic adoption homestudy was about $1000. Our foster care agency did not charge us for the foster care home study.

Good lucky to you!

TPR continuance granted for procedural reasons.
Removed from our home with no notice and placed in other foster home with siblings.
Retained attorney to request change of placement back to our home.
Granted "participant" status - hearings in process to return Little Buddy to our home as non relative care givers.
Three hearings: our reputation and good name raked over the coals. State agency incompetency prevails overall evidence. (Just disgusted)
Judge ruled : remain in current placement. Indicated she didn't want to disrupt him anymore and that likely return to biological mother within two months.
Will not renew my Foster Care agreement.
My heart is broken. Grieving the loss of a child as if he had died suddenly.
