heater

hello,
got a question again, I am in north central florida, I currently live in an older mobile home that does not have central A/C and heat, I have 2 window units and as far as air everything is perfect, when it comes to heat my ac units to do not have heat, I have a small NEW heater that I use in my room, I usually just keep it in there as I am the only one that lives there. I know I will have to get some more heaters before I have a child placed and likely before my home study is done at all, but does anyone know how this may affect the home study?? Is a portable heater considered acceptable??
Also, I know there is a certain type of fire extingwisher, can anyone tell me what kind it is, and how much I can expect it to cost? if it's brand new does it have to be inspected??
I have many questions, I want to get this done quickly, when it comes to waiting for this I have few patients, I have been waiting to do this for years and I finally am in the right place and time.
any comments are greatly appriciated!
Thanks so much!

I'm not completely sure about the heater issue but I know when we had our home study done (we are in NE Florida) the health department checks for heat in the home. I would think portable heaters would be a safety issue with kids but I'm not sure.

As for the fire extinguisher...you can purchase one at Walmart and then have it inspected at a fire extinguisher place. Yes, it will have to be inspected as they will require a tag on it showing a yearly inspection. You can get one that has been returned to a fire extinguisher place and recharged and they sell those which they will tag as inspected...that is what we did last year because our extinguisher was so many years old and they won't inspect them if they are. Either way I think it cost the same for us (buying one outright and getting it inspected or buying a recharged one at the fire extinguisher company). We also got a training point for mounting it on our kitchen wall (which was an easy thing to do). They require a certain type of extinguisher (minimum type) so don't purchase one of those really small ones-your home study package should specify the minimum requirements (model number) they will accept. To get a recharged extinguisher (at the fire extinguisher place) and get it inspected it cost us somewhere around 35.00. The 1st year we were licensed we used our current one we had as a family and it cost us somewhere around 15.00 to get it inspected (but we already had the extinguisher too).

thanks for advice

Thanks so much for advice, for some reason I thought the inspection and extinguisher would be much more money than that. I was thinking this was a big expense. Thanks,
about the heater, I am hoping that it's not a hazard, I am going to look into the base board heater, I realize there are some that would be dangerous, I will hopefully get more advise on it. I just hope it doesn't prevent me from being approved.
also, does anyone know. I have recently been divorced. We had a very civil divorce, we don't hate each other we just don't love each other any more and will not be back together. anyone know how strict the rules are on the waiting period after the divorce. I am hoping they realize that I am stable after the divorce and don't make me wait. any thoughts?
