The child should have a lawyer and a Guardian ad Litem. The GAL works hand and hand with a lawyer just for the child. They make sure they get everything they need. Even in cases of adoption. Find out who is GAL is and talk to them. There is no reason to pay for a lawyer when there is a good chance you have a free one.
FYI- They are really go lawyers- this is all they work with is foster/adoption cases

The GAL has a lawyer that represents your child's best interests. I suggest you find out who they are and work with them. They can normally help you out for free. If you want a lawyer to represent yourself also then you'd have to retain one for you. Otherwise just use the lawyer that the GAL has and get to know them so you can get what your FS needs during the adoption. I know a few here in Jacksonville but don't know any in Tampa that you could us. Maybe ask around to people you trust to see. And if you do get a lawyer try and get one that works in the courts on DCF cases too...I have one here in Jax that does that. Sorry I can't help much!
