help with codes

Luv4Rob,

If you look at the left of your b.c., the first line is the county in which you were born. The 2nd line underneath is the city in which you were born. Immediately to the right is a 5 digit number.
It looks like this:
XX-XXX

These are the numbers that are being described on that website, which are supposed to be the hospital code.

PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION when you are looking up these codes, they may not all be correct.
A good example; my girlfriend was born in St. Joseph's hospital.
(She was not given up for adoption). Her b.c. has the number
39-062. This website suggests that this particular number is to the Sanatorio del Centro Espanol hospital. Obviously this # reference is incorrect.

Let me know if you need any more help.

By the way, there are another set of numbers in the top right hand corner (XXX-XX-XXXXXX) These number indicate the county and year. There are a couple of other websites that help with those.

Florida birth Certificate

Thank you for your reply. This must be a weird BC, it is a blue certificate says "certification of birth". There are no numbers xx-xxx, only numbers on this birth certificate that we got from vital statistics are certificate number:xxx-xx-xxxxxx, and under the word warning bottom left, there is another set of numbers xxxxxxx. No other numbers are there so what am I looking at and is there a way to find out which hospital the birth took place. Thank you again for your help

I'm afraid I have no idea about your blue b.c. Sorry!

I have eleven numbers on the top of my b.c.

They are 109-65-****

The 109 means the state of Florida

65 is the year.

I have learned all of this from this website and a few others.
The SearchGuru often suggest contacting the vital statistics office to see what they mean.

I wish that I could be of more help to you. If you do a search on this website and type in the words: hospital codes and you can read a few posts. A few are mine, but there are others that might help.

http://www.birthfamily.com/state_bc_codes.html
This website has codes for other states too.

Goodluck! If I can help with anything else, I will try.

I looked up my hospital code tonight, 26-083, and found that it matched St. Vincents. I have always been told that I was born at St. Lukes by my adopted parents. Could the code be wrong on my birth certificate?
Thanks for your help.

Jill

codes?

My spouse's b/c who is a Floridian has only four digits for the hosptial code 62-10. I thought the 62 stood for the county as there are 68 counties in Florida and the 10 stood for the hospitlal it looks like I may have been wrong How does one find out what hospital had what code in 1958? We have thought St. Anthony's Hospital was the likely candidate, but that is just a wild card guess. Does anyone have a clue if I am right ? One other thing I wonder, is why some are five digits and some four. Maybe as the years past they had to make it five digits , like phone numbers were once much shorter. Anyway if anyone has an idea what hospital 62-10 is please post a reply. Thanks As always good luck to all searching......

codes

Hi,

Well it seems that there is alot of information going around on the codes and what they mean.

I have decided that I am going to go along with Searchguru, when she says that you should contact the county that you were born in to see what they mean.

They might have changed over the years. Who knows why.

I'm sorry that I can't help any further than that. I don't know if the numbers on the certificates are wrong.

The best answer is always from the county. They have records
of everything.

Best of Luck!!!!!!

codes?

Hi There,

I just wanted to suggest you try and find a Florida Search Angel. They are out there, it took me six months to figure out my husbands code which is 62-10 matched up to Mounds Park Hosptial in St, Petersburg. You may want to post in the Florida Adoption area. Yahoo also has some good groups.... good luck with your search..........
