Hi, I hope someone can help me with this situation I had last night with my daughter. She will be 15 months on the 16th of this month. Last night she cried out so I went to her room after first giving her a chance to fall back asleep. I tried to comfort her in bed to no avail. When I picked her up she continued to scream and flail around. She wanted to get down and then proceeded to throw herself backwards and was acting horribly. I am now wondering if she was not awake at all but having a night terror. Anyone ever heard of a child having this problem this young. My husband has them sometimes and almost always talks in his sleep. I know it runs in familys. I just could not console her. She has always been a great sleeper. I recently began the official weaning of her so she has only been nursing in the morning. She did not want that last night either. I gave her motrin as I do know she is cutting her eye teeth. I know it is possible she was just in a lot of pain with that but it seemed excessive. I have never seen her go on and on like that. I was afraid there was something really wrong. Maybe it was just a tantrum that went on too long. She has an older brother who is having a lot of them these days. I think she picks up on his behavior. HELP>

Hi,
I went through a similar thing with my son! He used to wake up screaming and I would try to comfort him, but with no luck. I would just hold him a bit(I think he was still sleeping) and then lay him back down...it would seem the more I would try to say "shhhh, it's ok" the louder he would scream. He was actually better off if I just put him back in bed and rubbed his back(although sometimes this would make him kick and scream). Unfortunately they have to get out of night terrors on their own. I would say go and try to comfort but not overly if it seems to be causing more screaming. Jamie |
