Cloth Diapers

Who uses them? Where can I buy them? Does anyone make them?

I have about 10 cloth diapers that I use for my foster baby. He gets horrible diaper rash from disposables. I want to buy some more but they're so darn expensive. Anyone have any idea of where I can get more cloth diapers with shelling out serious money for them? Has anyone made them? Were they hard to make?

I don't know if they are any cheaper-other things on this site were the same price as in stores but they had a huge selection of products.

We use Bumgenius one size. They are expensive though! (But worth it in the end. We have been exclusively cloth diapering 2 kids for more than a year with about $500 worth of diapers. I would have spent more on disposables. Plus mine still have a ton of wear so will be used for future kids also.) I have seen some on Etsy that were not as bad.

I tried to make them and had no luck. I just could not figure out how to get the curves right so I could not get a tight fit.

I stumbled across this earlier. Not sure how well it would work, but you could always try.

We use prefolds. We have about 30 of them, and have yet to run out between laundry loads. They were something like $2/each. We got our covers from Proraps, Starbunz, Stacinator (we use the proraps)

We originally expected a newborn, so our covers were the infant size. But when we got our FD, she was 7 months and a bit big for 7 months, too. So we had to get bigger covers. But we make do with just 3 covers and the same prefolds we initially bought.

We don't use them exclusively though. She's in daycare during the day, and they won't mess with cloth. And they're not absorbant enough to last during the night (we tried!). So we use them on the weekends during the day and in the evenings. Even this part time use has helped with preventing diaper rash.

One thing we did note is that with the cloth, we have to change them every two hours, but we have yet to run out in between laundry loads, and the covers can almost always be reused immediately. Only if there was a leak do we have to rinse and dry them before using again, so having 3 covers has been sufficient for us.

And don't let them tell you otherwise - prefolds are painfully easy to use! We prepare them ahead of time in their covers, so when it's time to change, we do so just like with a disposable. We have a laundry bag ready near the changing station for dumping the dirty ones. The only tricky thing is when we have a #2 situation in a cloth. We have to make sure Baby V doesn't stomp her feet into it after we've removed the dirty diaper, so we have to pull it off to the side until we're done. Then we take the dirty diaper to the toilet, and only once did we have to use the showerhead to get stubborn poo off the diaper.
