Shopping question

DS is not sitting up on his own yet, but is almost to the point that he will no longer be able to use his infant car seat since his weight is just about at the max for the infant seat. I will have to get a convertible car seat within the next month.

At the stores right now, I am able to put him in the seat area of the cart in his infant seat. However, when I get the new carseat, I won't be able to do this. Convertible car seats can't be placed in the shopping carts, can they?

My question is, what did you all do when your child graduated out of the infant car seat but could not sit up on his/her own? I don't know how to grocery shop, run errands, etc. if I can't put him in the car seat. There may be a very simple answer for this, but I just don't know it. That is where your advice would help tremendously! I'm hoping he will be able to sit up on his own soon.

Thank you!

Hi,
I would take a light-weight stroller with me. If I needed to use a grocery cart, I might have to wait until someone went with me to push the stroller. Or, I would carry her on me in a harness-type baby carrier if I wasn't going to be carrying much.

There may be better ideas, but I hope this helps anyway.

My bio son outgrew his infant seat by six months old and before he could sit up really well. I used to put him in the seat of the cart and put a cantalope on either side of him to keep him upright. We have a front pack Baby Bjorn type carrier which would have been ideal, but he hated it. This was 10 years ago so hopefully someone has invented something better by now, but cantalopes really did work!

You might cross post this on the General Adoptive Parents forum as that one gets more traffic and you probably will get more responses.

Good luck!

How cute to use the cantalopes! I will give that a try! We do use a baby bjorn with him, and that would probably work as well. Thank you both so much for your advice!!

You could still use the infant carseat for everything except driving.

We've only gone shopping once with Baby V so far, and there were two of us. One had the shopping card, the other the lightweight stroller. We do have a baby carrier that we use when there's only one of us and we have to walk our two dogs and have the baby. Sometimes this is easier than walking the dogs and having the baby in the stroller.
