7 week baby and consistent fussy time
Hi,
My little boy, 7 weeks old, has developed a consistent fussy time at around 6-7pm. It lasts for 20 minutes to hours, hours, hours on end. (Last night it was until 1am) What can I do to help him? He's on Similac Sensitive. We burp him after every feeding. When he doesn't burp, we keep him upright so the gasses can just come on out, but even that doesn't seem to do the trick. Help? |

Hello, my daughter had the same issue with colic and we found Enfamil Gentlease Lipil...it did wonders for her. But I must tell you she still had fussy times until she was about 5 months old...sorry to be the bearer of bad news...but I think sometime they simply have to grow out of it.
I will tell you though the above formula does have a generic but it is not the same It upset her stomach when we tried it. Hope this helps..if he still has problems talk to your ped about soy formulas. |

Give Gripe water a try. IT saved our lives - honestly!! There is a reason they used to call that the "witching hour!!"
There is only so much bouncing, rocking and singing a person can do!! Good luck

I don't have a child, but I noticed the same thing with my little niece. My sister had a hard time with that also.

My son's fussy time (hours) turned out to be severe MSPI. Hypoallergenic formula saved us! I also used simethicone and gripe water too. Driving him around in the car helped, as did vacuuming.

Do you have a sling? Our daugther was fussy off and on, sometimes for longer periods, but wearing her in the sling calmed her down a lot.
Also something that helped us was the Happiest Baby On the Block. At this point I would recommend the DVD. It is very good. I did not have time to read with a newborn. Some things worked for some of the time. Nothing worked all the time. But some things from the video did help a lot for us.

my baby was the same way - they switched her formula three times - gave her all the over the counter gas meds - it turned out to be reflux and she did not quit until the put her on zantac.
good luck |

Poor thing! My son had horrible colic & reflux for 4 months. It was around the same time in the evening - 6-11pm and he was such a miserable child.
The only things (and we tried all of the above methods) that worked were swaddling and a white noise machine. If you have a chance pick up or order "The Happiest Baby On The Block". That book saved my life - possibly my marriage!! ![]()

I was at my wits' end till friends told me "most babies fuss at this time" and mentioned "the arsenic hour".
Made me feel a lot better (He also grew out of it in a few weeks - either that or we figured out what he needs at that time, and got a better routine.) |

Try Lipid’s ProSoBEE formula, it's great for gassy babies. Also online you can purchase colic calm it's like gripe water but better.
Good luck! Manni28 |

Oh how I remember those days.....We changed our formula to soy forumula and Gripe Water and it did help. However, during that time all he wanted was to be held and I had a sling for the day and dh and I during the night took turns holding him. Sleep deprived we were....but it did turn to the good about 3 months and he decided to have a great sleep schedule that we all rejoiced too.
Good luck and as frustrating it is now know that it does get better. Sincerely, Michelle

With my niece, she just had colic. Using a different bottle helped - the PLaytex VEntaire. But I'm not sure they have a BPA free version now.
With my son, we used gas drops, but what made the big difference was when we started burping him after EVERY ounce, rather than just halfway through and after the bottle. We also bicycled his little legs and I laid him tummy-down across my thighs to put pressure on his little tummy for several minutes. He enjoyed the change of scenery, too, I think.

Many babies cry in the early evening and most times very little helps. They say that many babies stop this at 3 months. If it doesn't stop at that point, it will probably last until 6 months. Don't know if that's true or not. My daughter cried for about 2 hrs. every night till she was 3 months old and quit. It's unnerving but it WILL end.

We had the same issue - sometimes the fussiness was short-lived and I questioned it there was really an issue. Other nights it went on a really long time and I started to worry about her formula and reflux. I finally gave into doing a formula switch when a friend said their baby became gassy by the additives DHA and ARA, which are put in almost every formula on the market now, in order to enhance eyesight and brain development. We found Good Start without these additives (hard to find, but Babies R Us and Walgreens here carry it), then switch to Dr. Brown's bottles, and within 24 hours, the crying greatly decreased. These additives, according to research, are wonderful, unless your baby's tummy can't take it. DHA and ARA come from fermented microalgae and some babies can't tolerate them. This may not be your case, but it's another idea to consider.
