How many ounces of formula should an 8 monther be drinking a day?

My nearly 8 month old eats solids twice a day but takes bottles in between. Today he had 3 (8oz) bottles and a big solid lunch and kinda of a skimpy supper. That is 24 oz. formula...is it enough?

Blessings, Michelle

My baby is almost 8 months and he eats 4 6 oz. bottles and 3 servings of baby food a day. Mind you, he is on the big side-almost 22 pounds.

If you notice your baby is losing weight, I would up the amount of food and talk to the pediatrician.

After 3 kids, I've noticed they are all different.

Good luck~E

Hi Kate!

DS is 8 months and 2 weeks and is now on 23-27 oz of formula 9 oz of food (3 equal sized meals). Seems to be perfect. Before I was adding an oz or two of cereal/oatmeal or rice to each meal and he was getting really chunky....I mean he looked like an egg. He was almost 20 pounds after being in the 50th percentile of weight the month before.

so now I took out the extra cereal and I think it's perfect and he seems comfy. So I think you are in the right ballpark though maybe it's time to start him on three meals now and even it out throughout the day? That's what I would do!

Oh and he munches on some cheerios and pirates bootie in his high chair while I prepare his food. Just one bit at a time and I watch....
