Hi everyone. Our guy has slept in a basinette for two months. The basinette isn't a huge one and lately it seems he is almost as long as it is. Last night he went kind of diagonal and his head, while not jammed, was kind of pushed up into the top corner making it a little hard for him to move. He wasn't upset I just noticed.

We were going to put him in the crib in a few weeks but I think we have to do it sooner!

For those of you who used a basinette: how do you put a baby who is not used to it into a crib which to them must feel like laying on a football field! How do I make it a little cozier without creating any kind of suffocation hazard?

I know many people start from the beginning so please bear with me. Also, he's not swaddled anymore so that also makes a big difference.

The kid needs room! But he's still only 2 months...

Not sure. I think that they just transition on their own. In the winter I put a flannel crib sheet on so it was cozier and in the summer a cotton one. I would just try it for a few nights to see how he does before moving on to anything. The only thing I would be a little concerned about is him bumping into the bars of the crib. Lots of people don't believe in bumper pads but I used one because Kelcee was such a mover and would bump into the bars and wake herself up. You'll think of something.

He can't move so I was thinking he wouldn't know the difference. As always it is my issue LOL

We used the sleep positioner wedges w/ H in the crib for the first week or so, and had one of those chenille sheets,which was cozy. I also used a bumper---H was also a mover, and our crib is iron.

It is definitely harder on you than it is on them. You will find yourself getting up constantly the first few nights to do the "Is he still breathing?" check.

Can you try to put him in his crib for naps at first so that you feel comfortable? With our older son, we used a bassinet and had a hard time transitioning him to his crib so with the baby, we had him in his crib from the beginning. We also use bumpers because he is a "mover and a shaker" and was smashing his head into the rails all night and kept waking up. He loves his crib and loves the room to roll and spread out.

The bassinet was never a popular place with Eve. She hated it from day one and after four or five nights of absolutely NO sleep because she didn't want to be in it, we relented. We tried the crib, she hated that even MORE. So for the first three months of her life she slept in her swing. I kid you not.
Then we moved her into her crib, but she sleeps on her side in her Boppy. She has a chenille blanket underneath and she's pretty happy with the situation. We've gotten to the point now where she's rolling over in her sleep so we settle her into the Boppy then slide it away when we go to bed and she's zonked out. Hopefully we'll be out of the Boppy stage in the next month.

Good idea, I thought of it but he likes our bed and I have so much trouble getting him down during the day.

If you put him down on a soft blanket I guess you have to tuck it in VERY tight? We have some really soft ones. I'm sure he'll be fine. He doesn't even know he has HANDS yet so he won't be aware of the space around him (I think)

MEANWHILE....somehow, someway our munchkin has gotten his days and nights mixed up! He doesn't even have shades on his windows yet!

Last night he had me up every two hours but today he took a six hour nap. I know there's some way out of this but I don't have time to look it up. Thoughts, knowledge experience????
