2 1/2 months old.....sleep question

Ok, here goes. Marco is 11 weeks old. He weighs 16 pounds, which is 98th %ile. From about 5 weeks on, he was sleeping about 8 hours at night, without waking. Well, for the last 3 nights, he has been up every 3 hours! WHAT THE HECK????? I was all thinking I had it easy, and now I am wondering how to get back to the sleeping all night. Any suggestions?

I feel your pain

Eve is four months and as of about two weeks ago she was sleeping through the night at least three night a week. And on the nights she did get up it was at 4 a.m. and just long enough to eat a little and crash out again.
Last week things changed. Dh and I didn't get more than three hours of sleep total on any given night. She wouldn't go to sleep and when she finally did she wouldn't stay asleep.
Two nights ago she started sleeping all night again and it's been smooth sailing ever since. We have NO idea why there was a problem or what made it go away.
I don't think there's always a reason or anything you can really do about it. Just hang in there and power nap until he gets back to normal.
Oh, I will say that teething has been a factor for Eve for the last month. Still no teeth, but you can tell she's not comfortable all the time.

Everyone insisted when DD did the same that it was due to teething. I personally didn't believe it.

My thoughts are has his routine changed at all? (guests visiting, you or hubby working more hours, changed sleeping spots, a neighbor leaving a light on that shines into his room, etc.); your little one might be going through a growth spurt (is he eating more than normal?); has he started doing a new thing (like rolling over) or is about to; or it could just be one of those unexplained things (I know, that one's not much help, hehe).

Just stay consistent with him and he'll get back to sleeping through the night again. I know it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen (DD, who is now 16 months and started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks is getting over being sick and still waking multiple times at night... I haven't slept a good night in about a week!), but I assure you it will.

Good luck!

Growth spurt.

Nicholas also started teething at three months so it could be a possibility. I'd stick with growth spurt.

Thanks for all the repiles. We went on vacation to the in laws but got back last week. He transitioned well back and forth. He is already rolling from front to back, but is growing like crazy all the time. Maybe that is it. It is too early for teeth, isn't it? When I first visited Timo, he was 10 months and just getting tooth 2, so I thought it would be later.

Last night he slept until 5:30, so it was at least better. Didn't go to sleep until mindnight, though! He was sleeping from 11 until 7 or 8.

I am also trying to transition him to his crib from sleeping exclusively in his bouncer. Due to his reflux, it was the only thing he would sleep in. He is almost 3 months, though, and so I am putting him in the crib for naps. Maybe naps are not as good right now, so that is affecting nighttime sleep. I know that has always been an issue with Timo.

Thanks for all the help!!! I am sure you will see a lot more questions from me in this foray into infantness!!

Our niece got her first tooth at just over three months. Eve's four months and in the last day or two her gumms have gotten really white and I can feel a couple of bumps. So I think the teeth thing varies from child to child.

Ok, another question. What do you all do as far as bedtime? I was thinking I should nap him from 7-9 or so and then eat, awake until 11:30ish and then sleep for the night. Should I try to really get him to sleep from about 8 on? Is he ready for that? Maybe I will try it tonight. Feed him around 7, then let him play, then sleep with the intention of sleeping for a while. Maybe he is ready for MORE sleep, not less.

I will let everyone know how it works..........

HI! My friend was just telling me the same thing happened to her--baby boy is almost the same age as yours. It was short lived--maybe she said a few days or week or so. She was reading in her book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, how around this age a change takes place--I can't remember exactly what it was! Perhaps a sleep pattern or growth spurt or something, but it sounds just like your baby, and it was over soon!

The best advice I ever got on h ere was that sleep begets sleep - keep daytime consisent and it helps the nighttime...

The first year, year and a half we went through something every few months like this. Some times it was teething, sometimes growth spurts. Once he was several months old, I wouldn't feed him a bottle when he woke up like that. Just tried to soothe him, although occasionally, it would be - Let's play! Up for an hour or two int he middle of the night!!! Maybe that was when he was learning new things (like rolling over) and needed to practice at 3 am.......

I'm w/ Jenna on this one. I bet it's a growth spurt.

Oh - and our boy started teething about 3 months, but the first one didn' tpop through until 5 months...
