Best type of thermometer?
What is the best type of thermometer to use for a baby? I have heard that rectal ones are the most accurate but they just sound a little extreme to me. Thanks

My children's pediatrician's nurse says the ear thermometers. I've never trusted them, tho. I know when I had to take my oldest to the ER a few times and when he was in the hospital, they always used the rectal. They do have them with safe guards to keep you from going too far.
I just took it under their arm and remember to add one if you do that. |

My mom gave me a new kind of thermometer a month or so ago called the Thermofocus. It uses infrared light to take little J's temp without even having to touch him. I have even taken his temp while he was sleeping without ever disturbing him. It says on the box that it is as accurate as a rectal thermometer but I have only compared it with a normal thermometer using my husband as the test subject (at least he serves some purpose
) and found it to be right on. I am not sure where my mom got it from but if anyone is interested I can ask and find out. |

I have a digital ear one from Costco, Braan I think. It is fast and awesome and from the extensive testing DH did (it was his toy for about a month) it seems very accurate.

I asked at the hospital when Eve was being discharged and the nurse said the best thing to do was use a regular under the tongue digital thermometer and take their temp. under the arm. That's what we've done and it's worked so far.
