going backward on solid food progress
Can anyone offer suggestions as to WHAT can be happening to our good roll on solid food?
K was liking most things, and for at least the past month I have been coarsley chopping or making lumpy puree food. She has also eaten cut-up spaghetti, avocado pieces, small cauliflower florets, bread, etc. with no problem. Until this week. Now she has been rejecting anything not pureed. Except for fruit. She'll eat any fruit in chopped pieces. But any vegetable, pasta, bread, even avocado that she loved, is no promptly spit out with the tongue. She is very good at getting at least 90% of it out of her mouth. Today we thought she was not eating anything except sweet foods, like the fruit. But tonight I pureed the cauliflower--she ate it fine. At lunch it was in mushed up pieces--out it went from her mouth. Even baked potato tonight mixed with formula creamed to very little texture was attempted to spit out. I know it is not teething pain, beacuse she is eating the fruit pieces. Why this sudden backward move in her eating?

I was thinking teething myself and maybe the fruit is cold and feels good on her gums that is why she is eating it.
But, I know Kelcee still goes thru phases where she will eat something and everything well then poof. NO MORE. Very frustrating. I hope it gets better. If she is not losing weight I would not be to concerned yet. Maybe just put a quick calll into the ped.

Don't worry about it---she'll find something else she likes in cut up form and you'll be back to normal. H went through a couple of phases like that. Try letting her use a spoon to play with the pureed stuff herself. She may decide she likes picking up the chunks better.

Thanks--the first of many food phases I'm sure! I have been giving her a spoon dipped into something--she likes that. Like you said Denice, it was the suddenness that caught me off guard!

My little guy just started doing the same thing. Last week, he never met a food he wouldn't eat. This week, picky picky picky. The dogs are appreciating the left overs though. I hope he gets through this fast.

I hope it's a fast phase too!
And it seems since the sweet potatoes and squash are out of season, they have a different taste--those are no good either, unless they are from the jar. After K gagged and spit out homemade sweet potato tonight, I tasted it myself, and it wasn't very good.
