Solid Food?

My daughter is almost 5 months old and I really wanted to wait a bit for solid food but she's hungry ALL the time. Our doctor gave us a paper about when babies are ready for solid food and she's had all the "signs" for a while. Today I gave her some cereal from a spoon and she loved it. We're leaving for vacation for 2 weeks and I thought it would be easier to just have her on formula until we got back but she seems to have other ideas. Any advice?

We started H at about 4 1/2 months because he was exhibiting signs as well. If she likes the cereal, just bring a box w/ you along w/ a couple of little rubber tip spoons. You'll mix it w/formula anyway, and it's really not too much more trouble that the bottles.

Good luck!

Thanks. I know that some people are really strict about wanting to wait until 6 months. My doctor said it was ok to start whenever we wanted to after 4 months. She needed some cereal in her formula to keep from spitting up through her nose when she was really little so I know she can tolerate rice very well.

If your baby is ready, you can start the cereal now. we did that for at least a month before starting any other kind of solid food. we took things pretty slow once we did. (We did start at 5 months, but I felt some pressure from Hubby and others to start that early. With the next one, I'll try to wait longer, if that is good for the babe).

Yuna started cereal at about 5 months and did really well with it. Just bring a small Tupperware or similar container of the cereal and another bowl for her to eat out of and add a little of the formula from the bottle -- that worked best for us. Good luck!

She sounds like she is ready. Follow her lead I'd say. Each kid is different.

Are you wanting advice on if to go ahead with cereal or how to go about using cereal on vacation? I'm sorry, not trying to sound dumb or anything, just wondering.

In case you were wanting ideas for feeding on vacation, here are a few suggestions.

If you are going to be at a hotel, and it has a kitchenette where you can wash dishes, and you want to wash them, then take a few bowls with you. You can either take a small box of cereal or you can put servings in zip lock bags and take the bag with you. If you don't want to do dishes while on vacation, then take some paper bowls. Also, there are cheap baby spoons that you can toss or you can just try a regular plastic spoon. I would try it ahead of time though to see if she can eat off of it. I think they do have like maybe Zoo pals spoons that are smaller, not sure, though.

If you were just wanting to know if it's ok for her to be on cereal, sure!

Vacation and solid food

We had a great vacation. We waited for her to have cereal on a regular basis until we got back. She's really strong and sitting in her high chair really well now. She doesn't spit the food out very much. She's been on rice for a while so I'm going to try some oatmeal next week.

Now I just have to worry about teething next!
