Roo is nine months. Could he be weaning himself from the bottle??
Here we are, planning to start weaning Roo off night feeding and what does he do? He starts drinking very little during the day. He rarely eats even 3 oz at a time of formula and it is concerning. He eats solids okay and is even doing okay eating more table foods and finger foods. So I know he's getting enough to eat.
ANd I'm fine with him weaning himself off the bottle as we had to work HARD and long to wean Bug (who finally gave up her last 2 oz bottle on her 3rd birthday... yikes!!) but I'm concerned at the level of fluids he is taking in. Especially as we try to reduce his night time feedings to get him to sleep through. Should I start putting formula in a sippy? Or should I try watered down juice in a sippy? Or should I wait a few days and see if he bounces back as he might be getting another tooth? ANyone experienced this? Ideas??? And thanks!!!

H started being less interested in formula as he began eating more "people food", and he went to a sippy around 9 months.
Try the formula in that, and let him take some water during the day too----H would still take his bottles first thing in the morning and at night, but the rest of the day he was more interested in other foods and water (it was summertime when we went through this.) Roo sounds like he's doing the same thing----the great thing is that it was really easy to ditch H's bottles. We pretty much went cold turkey after his first birthday. |

Ooohhh I'd love to be done with washing bottles that's for sure. Did you use a sippy that was similar to a bottle? I have one and have put water in it. I'm going to try offering it to him a little more. I just worry about him not getting enough nutrition or fluids. But I would love weaning him off bottles to be easy (or at least easier than his big sis...). Thanks for your input!

We used those Gerber double handled sippies. The hardest switch with him was on that morning and bedtime bottle. He went through about a week where he'd fuss a little, but I didn't change anything else about his routine---cuddling w/ mommy in the rocker while reading books, so it wasn't too bad.

DD slept through the night at less than 6 weeks old. I'd put her down about midnight and DH would get up with her at about 6:30. She was VERY hungry first thing in the morning and DH took to just handing her the bottle in her crib once she was old enough to hold it. And of course, I kept putting her to bed progressively earlier. Anyway, when dd was about 9 1/2 months old, DH handed her the bottle one morning and she handed it back to him. We took that to mean she was done with the bottle. We went to the 2 handled variety sippy cup, and then other ones later.
One other thing about enough liquids, remember that many fruits contain a high water content. That's another way the little ones get hydrated. |

We had to try several types of sippies before we found ones that A likes.
We use the cheapo ($1?) Nuby brand that I find at Walmart and some groceries - nipples are clear silicone (or look like silicone) and flexible. They're no spill. We use ones without handles. Also the Gerber w/ the two handles that have the dark blue rubbery flat shaped spouts.
