Baby Einstein Videos/DVDs

Okay, I'm not a big supporter of young children and television. I'm just not. It's not how I was raised and I feel that was beneficial to my formative years. Anyway, I went to get my library card today. (I know, I know. Me. The bookworm. Didn't have a library card.) I stopped in the AV department and saw that they had the whole Baby Einstein collection. I figured I'd grab one and we'd give it a go.

I got the Baby Shakespeare one. I am in love with it. Nick love it as well (giggles, pointing) until about the last five minutes. (Toys caught his attention.) I thought it was educational, bright and colorful and appropriate for his age group. Plus, I mean, SHAKESPEARE. That's enough for this Book Nerd Mommy to approve of right there!

Do you all have any favorites? I know we're going to borrow some more of the literature ones and the music ones. Any other favs?

Too funny! We don't do much TV either, but some days, a little Baby E can be a very, very, very good thing!

I've only really seen the 2 we own--Megan LOVES the zebra puppets in Baby Monet. Actually, usually I just play the bonus features, because there are a couple of puppet shows in that section.

We also have the sign language one, Baby Wordsworth. It's a little over her head right now, although I'm learning some signs with it. She likes the "board book" extra feature on that one.

My nephew's favorite was the animal one--Dr. Doolittle, I think.

I hadn't thought about seeing if there were any at the library...I'll have to see if ours carries them!

We love Baby Mozart and Baby Neptune and Baby Shakespeare too. Bug actually learned the names of many objects by watching them. I usually was there with her and we talked about them. She is 2 1/2 and still loves them, esp as a calm down before bedtime. They are very relaxing for all of us. Oh and I forgot Numbers Nursery. Love that one too, lol!

We love baby einstein!!! We have Baby Neptune (intro to water in babies world) and Neighborhood Animals. Dd especially loves Baby Neptune and I let her watch the dvd 2 to 3 times per week. L squeals, laughs and follows all the action closely. I am also a big fan of the use of classical music. Every time I set down at the piano with L, I play a bit of Beethoven or Strauss and she goes wild. She recognizes these songs and I love it!!!!!

while I wouldn't want her watching for long periods of time, a 20 min break every so often is welcome around here.

"T" doesn't get into the Baby Einstein video's as much as he LOVES Baby Signing Time. He gets so excited if I even mention Baby Signing Time. They are excellent.

Favorites in our house are:
Baby Shakespeare
Baby MacDonald
Baby Wordsworth
Baby Monet

I really like all of them except the Baby Einstein Language Nursery. We have most of them- I think we are missing the two newest ones, Neighborhood Animals, Baby VanGogh, Baby Neptune and Numbers Nursery.

Baby Bach is a great one as well. Also, just some FYI incase you are interested, the same people who make Baby Einstein make Little Einsteins, same idea, more cartoony, Dylan likes those now. They air them on the Disney Channel but you can buy them at the store. Baby Einstein is great for the lil ones....they are directly geared to them. BTW, it was a mom who invented them. YEAH TO MOMS!

Wow! Sounds like I'm way behind the times on the series. I got the first ones way about 5 or 6 years ago when we had our foster child. He was 2 at the time, but had many problems and Baby Mozart was perfect for him. He loved it and responded well.

We started Sam off on them when he was 3 months ...22 minutes of peace for mom to get a shower and wash her hair! Added Shakespear, Bach, Beethoven, Neptune and Van Gogh. Cj loves them all.

So, can you say...
"Hi, I'm Julie Clark, founder of the Baby Einstein company. For more information about our developmental programs, visit our website at www dot baby eintsein dot com. Enjoy the show" ?

Cj stares at me as soon as she sees the caterpiller, then waits for me to join in on this refrain.

Sheesh. What sticks in a mom's brain...

By the way, Jenna, nice to have you on the blogs. I've been reading you here for ages, so the longer pieces are nice for continuity.

Baby Dolittle

After being home sick for two days, I finally hooked up the VCR and played the Einstein video we have (as opposed to the DVDs) and I must say, that Baby Dolittle wins!!

Megan went nuts over all of the animals and animal puppets.

I know that the "new" DVDs are a little slicker than the old VHS series, and I have to say, I like the old ones better. They are a little campy, but much slower and seem to hold M's attention longer.

Oh! And I went online to check if our library has them--they do, and every blessed one in every blessed location is checked out and has a waiting list. Guess I missed the bus on that one.

Ah, waiting lists. Another reason why it is good to live in the middle of absolutely no where.

We have Baby Neptune, Baby MacDonald, Baby Monet, Baby Da Vinci, and Sophie's favorites are: Baby Monet and Baby MacDonald... She gets bored with the other ones... She watches them once or sometimes twice a week.

Squeak squeals with joy whenever I go to the DVD player. I only let her watch Baby Einstein, she's seen some Animal planet, but nothing else. She loves Baby Van Gogh, Baby Monet and Neighborhood Animals. She has the ones for the younger kids too, but the goopy stuff they show always scares her...not sure why??? But she actually talks...squeaks etc. to the TV with the ones I mentioned. For Christmas I hope to buy her Baby Shakespeare and a few more. She loves them.

I also like to support Baby Einstein because the founder Julie Clark started the company so that she could be a Work at Home mommie like a lot of us and shortly after was diagnosed with an agressive form of breast cancer, so she is a breast cancer survivor. My cousin is also a young mother and a breast cancer survivor I have watched my cousin go through horrible things because of this disease so I want to support a mother who faced this and created something wonderful. Although Mrs. Clark has sold the series to Disney, she still gets a percentage of the profits and still is a part of the creative team that makes each new DVD. I feel good about supporting them. :-) And my little one loves it!

With Nick's birthday looming in the near future (AH!), I just ordered a box set of all 21 DVDs. Josh is going to love me.

Baby E Rocks!!

This is another one of those "my kids are never going to..." things for me. However, we found the video set at Costco way back when I was pregnant w/Kaleb, and the price was too good to pass up. We never had an opportunity nor wish to use them until E was here and he LOVES them...we're watching Baby MacDonald as I write this
His faves are the ones with more live action video: Baby Galileo, Neighborhood Animals, Baby MacDonald, Baby Neptune, and World Animals, although there is a part in that one where a girl in a tiger costume growls and that sends him running off screaming every time.
Q is too little to watch them, but I think he enjoys the music. I could probably sing/hum the music to all of the above, in order, by now, and E loves dancing to just about every video. As TV goes, it works for me, and we really do spend the videos talking and learning the names of objects, so it's all good.
