I thought the spitting up would lessen when we started solids, but it has gotten much worse. Lilly is days away from 6 months and has been showing a lot of interest in our foods. She lunged at my mom's pizza last Friday night, so we took the plunge and began with some rice cereal on Saturday morning. She took to it really well, and the most she's had has been a tablespoon once a day.
The problem is that she has been spitting up MUCH more than normal since we began (granted, she's always been a spitter). Two days ago I switched to baby single grain oatmeal, thinking that maybe she couldn't process the rice very well. Same thing has been happening, if not more so. I've tried it thick, I've tried it thin, I've given her water... to no avail. I'm tearing my hair out. I don't think she's getting overly full. She eats the cereal until the Tbs. is gone or until she's done, and has her bottle before or after (minus and ounce or two of what she'd consume w/o the cereal). Has anyone heard of this or have any advice?

I don't have any advice but am interested to know as well. I noticed the same thing when we started feeding DD solid foods.

Hi,
Around 5-6 months, we noticed Jack was spitting up more. We hadn't really started solids too much -- he wasn't all that interested. When we asked the dr. he said that this is common because babies who are trying to sit up use their abdominal muscles more, which can cause them to spit up more. So, the solids and spitting aren't necessarily related. I hope this helps!

Nick can't eat peaches or apricots. We think it's because they are a very acidic fruit. That said, shortly after the introduction to solids, he had some peaches and I witnessed and participated in (by being caught in the cross fire) my first child throw up scenario.
Remember: the foods are new and their tummies will respond differently over time. If you do notice certain foods and a sensitivity, mention it to your doctor or cut it out to see if it goes away. ![]()
