Nipples
Okay, for all of you with your minds in the gutter, pull them out. I am talking about the kind on baby bottles, sillies!!
Okay, here is my question. When do you need to switch to different nipples? All of our bottles came with size / level / flow (whatever it is called) one. When do we need to go up to 2? Do you ever need to switch if you don't add cereal? I know when people add cereal to bottles, a larger nipple is needed so the cereal will come out. Thanks!! (There sure is a lot of random knowledge you need for being a mom...)

Baby A HATED the slow flows - after about 3 days, we finally realized he just wasn't getting enough, so he's been on the Playtex Stage 2's since he was just days old.
Sidenote on cereal in bottles - I've read and heard and been told a lot NOT to put cereal in bottles for various reasons. If you have a baby who is old enough and needs more than he or she is getting from formula - feed it from a spoon. (I think Jenna has even posted some web info on it for us in the past, but I'll have to hunt for that thread....) As far as needing it to thicken the liquid for reflux type problems, it seems I've read something different to use for that too.

Our bottles can go from size 1 to3 and then have one for cereal. I am on the size 2 and have been for about 10 months. Kelcee didn't like the size 3 because it comes out to fast and she chokes quite a bit on that flow.

Nick hated slow flow. We were at medium for a good length of time. He's now on fast flow.

When I bumped Tyler up to over 4oz of milk, we had to begin using a larger bottle (we use Avent). The larger bottles have a faster flow nipple. I was worried he would get choked or possibly begin spitting up, so I planned on switching the nipples to the newborn flow, but he has done fine so we are using the ones already on the bottle.

I have no intention to put cereal in bottles. I also have heard bad things about that. I'll just keep getting up for nighttime feedings... sigh...

We use the Avent bottles and the nipples are marked for level 1 fornewborn, 2mo, 3mo+. We stayed with the level one until he was about 3 mos. I tried to go up earlier than that but he got bellyaches so I went back. Then he used the 2 for only a little while before upping to the level 3.

We use the playtex bottles with diposable liners and we used slow flow for Loren's first three months. We then went to fast flow and she was much more satisfied. Before moving to the fast flow nipples, she was becoming frustrated during bottle time.
