Diapers

Okay, my little piggy has outgrown size one diapers. At 7 1/2 weeks. Is this normal? We had half a bag left and the daycare had 3/4 of a bag (The jumbo sizes). So, I just gave away a ton of diapers. Now I am paranoid to buy big bags. Size one is supposed to go up to 14 pounds. Could he really be 14 pounds already?? And if so, size 3 starts at 16 pounds, so he will be there SOON!! We go to the doctor in a week and a half so I will find out his weight then.

So, here is my question: How long did your kids last in each diaper size? Does it increase with each step up? (I hope so, otherwise we will outgrow diapers by a year old!!) Should I buy littler packages to cut down on waste? Or take the plunge and buy the mega box from Sam's? (Yes, Sam's is carrying Huggies in a box in size 2 now!!! Woo-Hoo no more size 1-2) Okay, so I guess I should have said questions...

We use the Huggies Supreme because they fit our daughters frame the best. I can't remember when we out grew the sizes. I can tell that she is now 16 months old and has been in the size 3 for about 6 months now. I think she might have out grown the each size in 4-6 month intervals.

Well I don't have much experience to speak from, but Tyler is one month and just moved from Newborn Swaddlers into a size 1 diaper. I don't trust the weights they list on packages. Size 1 says 8-14lbs, but Tyler is 10 1/2lbs and is just now fitting into them. I don't think there is anything wrong with your son moving to a size 2 at 7 1/2 weeks old.

Nick has been in size 3 since about four months. He was peeing out of size 2's about a month after he was in them and we just switched. He's going to be moving into size 4's in the next few months.

We've found that some diapers are made a little more stretchy or "roomy". Woobie's size 3s are either tight or roomy depending on the style. Huggies supreme are tighter than the regular huggies, for example. And just a note for you...My six month bubba is in a size three, as is my 2 year old neice...who knows?

I think Cameron will follow in Nick's footsteps, so I think we will stick to the smaller packages until we are ready for size three. I already have 2 jumbo packs (or is it mega? I get them confused. The one with about 50.) I got those as gifts. So, by the time he finishes those I don't know that there will be time for a whole box. We will hold off on boxes until he is in size 3.

I never go by the actual weights on the boxes. RJ is 23 pounds and we use luvs on him and I am getting ready to put him in size 5's because he has been soaked come morning.

DD is in ones and she is 1 month old - I was actually thinking that she was getting close to needing 2's - she is in the pampers swaddlers.

I PMd but am also posting for others' benefit. Good to hear from RJs mom up there. We're also in size 4s, but they're not holding at night lately, so may have to up to 5s at night. A (my big boy!) probably weighs 26 pounds or more, but I thought the 4s were supposed to last until 28.

We have been in fours for a very long time. But I do remember going through some sizes VERY quickly (maybe it was the 2s?).

(That's another thing I wish I'd recorded along w/ the clothing sizes - what diaper sizes he wore at what age...... Oh well. Will know for #2, even though everyone says I won't have time to keep a baby book for anyone beyond #1.)

It also seems that so far, in our limited experience, it depends on the BRAND!

Pampers Swaddlers Newborn worked great until about a week ago, when she was wetting out the upper back end (?). Tried Huggies a few times, same size, but the elastic around the leg never fit, and she leaked out every time.

Just today started on Target brand Newborn size and they are working rather well, no problems as of yet.

All of the above brands for newborn size say up to 10 pounds, and she is over 9 pounds now.

So, it seems that you may stay in some sizes for longer or shorter, depending on the brand, and they work differently.

Our fs is 18 months and has been in size 4 for probably 10 months! No kidding! I use pampers and luvs. I always buy the big box. I love when Target sells the really big box.

Stork's experience has been the same as ours----I remember going through the first couple of sizes pretty quickly and giving away a lot of diapers, but the 3s and 4s lasted longer.

He's been in 4s quite a while now, but H is also pretty wet come morning. Good idea on moving up a size at night.

Related question: For those 9 month and up kiddos, who's still using the changing table? H thinks it's a jungle gym and I am seriously considering getting rid of it.

HA-HA!! You must all have tiny little ones!! My 13 month old is 28.5 lbs and has been in 5's for a while now!! She is 31 inches long!! We use the overnight diapers, they seem to help - she'd pee out of the regular ones.... Seemed like she was in 3's for like a week. We have donated a ton of diapers (and all the powdered formula we got from the companyin the mail) to a shelter around here... They were thrilled for all of it.

And yes, my little one now hates, I mean HATES the changeing table. Gotta do it on the floor. Don't know what made her hate it, no scary episodes that I know of, but she freaks out on it.... Bummer, I miss it!! Although she is very good about coming to you when asked so I go and sit on the floor and she comes over and then I can change her....

Yes - the changing table. We just double checked the weight limit. We have until 30 pounds, but the long guy isn't going to make it until then before his feet and head are hanging over the ends.

If hubby didn't have a bad back, we probably would have moved it out of the bathroom by now. I'm thinking we'll just do then what we did the first few weeks before we got it, and change him on the curved pad just on the floor. I will miss all my shelves on the table which hold all this stuff, but I'll make do.

Sometimes he really struggles when we make him lie there. I don't know that it will be any better when he's on the floor. An dI know he'll miss sitting up on the table after he's changed to watch himself brush his teeth or wave to the baby in the mirror.....

Sophie is wearing size 4, but we are moving to size 5 in a week, since 4 is getting too tight in her legs... she has big legs and butt ... I remember going thru what you are going thru, I used to buy the big boxes at Costco, and end up with a lot of them unused, so I just got the small packages, I think 90 from walmart or target until she hit size 4.

Here's what I remember (it may or may not be accurate!)

M started in size 1 Swaddlers, and moved to size 1/2 pretty quickly (we used Swaddlers and Huggies--all gifts!). We used the size 2's we got as gifts as well.

I started buying Sam's Brand (Smiles) size 3's when she was 5 months old, and those lasted until she was about 8 months old.

Since then, she's been in Smile's size 4's. She's 13 months, 24lbs and 31 inches tall!!! A friend has a little guy who's closer to 30lbs, 36" tall and size 4 still fits him too (he's almost 2).

I tend to just buy the big boxes....figuring I can donate what we don't use to a good cause or whatever, and this way we never run out!
