News: Rotavirus Vaccine

http://www.bloggingbaby.com/2006/06/...virus-vaccine/

Article Quoted:
The FDA has recently approved a vaccine that will help combat Rotavirus. The virus, which causes diarrhea and vomiting in children, is responsible for over 400,000 doctor's visits every year. The live vaccine, RotoTeq, was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in February 2005 for use in children at ages 2 months, 4 months and 6 months of age.

It is hoped that the vaccine will help to cut down on the estimated $1 billion dollars in annual costs that result from hospitalizations and doctor's visits. The vaccine will also be a huge help in undeveloped countries where Rotavirus can cause many deaths among the very young.

Discuss.

Well, I was thrown for a loop today. I wish I would have saw your post before our dr visit today. I was all ready today to fight for separate vaccinations; starting at 4 months, not 2. To my surprise, my Dr. did not fight me but smiled and said 'you're the boss.' I was pretty impressed.

Then, the nurse came in and said they were planning on doing the rotavirus vaccine today as well but it was oral. I didn't read up on this vaccine nor oral vaccines as a whole. Rather than saying no I let them give him vaccination.

So far, my son Kerbe is doing okay. He did vomit, but is sleeping for now. Hopefully, that will be it. However I am kicking myself for not declining so I could research a little further.

In any case, I just had to vent a little and respond to your post. Thanks!

Venting is a-okay! We're delaying a vac at our next shot appointment (not until one year) and while the Doc will be a-okay with is, I'm sure to get attitude from one specific nurse.

Don't beat yourself up about it. We've all done something like it and will do something else like it again. *hugs* Vent away!
