Vaccines??

Vaccines??
Hi Everyone,
Is anyone else struggling with whether or not to have your children vaccined? Or to only get some and pass on others? I'm really having a hard time with this.

The ones that really have me scared are the Pertussis(whooping Cough) and the Polio. I wonder about even needing some of the others like Rubella since German Measles really mainly cause major health problems and death in Pregnant mothers and their *unborn* children.

Whooping Cough is usually only fatal in infants under 1 yr. but how many cases have there actually been in recent years? this is the vaccine they have documented studies on that it is linked to various types of brain damage, retardation, eliplipsey, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and even SIDS. That is just scary!

And i just read where we don't even have polio here in America anymore other the the cases caused by the vaccine itself.

I also read where some of these vaccines have mercury in them!!

So I don't know I'm still in the research stages, but Elijah is supposed to get his first shots in a week and we don't know if we want them or not.

They say that by the time children are through being vaccinated they will have had around 36+ doses of these vaccines. That sure does seem like a lot of harmful chemicals to be putting into these little bodies.

Just curious as to what the rest of think about this health issue. At this point I'm just a mom trying to do protect and do right by her little guy. This is such a hard decision!
Judy

Last month our new reported that Whooping cough is NOT really gone and that Many adults actully do get it because the vac's are no longer effective!?! There was a long segment on the news about the symptoms and the seriousness of it for a child who contracts it from an adult.

and the Polio.

This is one that would be horrible if it returned.....in the past I believe we were given a live virus and now I believe it is not alive.

I had German measles at 11 mos old and according to my mother it was scary and horrible and I was in the hospital....Vac's for this are at about age 16mos.

Last year there was an outbreak here in the College age children and they were all asked to get new vacs because we did have several young people die from Measles

And now the children are getting Vac's for Hep A and B as well as Chicken Pox---the one I worry about the most is Chicken Pox as I got them at age 28 and nearly DIED from them!

I don't know what the right answer really is--Our daughter had not been when she was placed into Foster Care and the State actually used this aggainst the birthmother---our daughter had to catch up on all of them in about three doc visits!

Oue newly adopted son has recently started his vaccinations. He's months now and had some done in russia before the adoption. Here in ireland children get Whooping cough, polio, diptheria, BCG, menigitis C and then a 3 in one MMR, measles, mumps and rubella. There has been a lot of controversy around theh MMR and it's links to autism. I have a nephew who is autistic and his mother is sure that the MMR caused it. I've done a bit of reading around the subject and we've decided that Andre will get all his vaccinations. including the MMR. I feel that it is important not only to protect him but to protect others too. Due to the poor uptake in the MMR recently we have had some measles epidemics and no one wants that.

It's a hard decision to make and each parent has to make it and not be bullied into doing something you don't want to. So much of parenting is going with your gut feeling and vaccinations is the same. But do educate yourself and if you go for the vaccinations make sure your child is well on the day

hi guys,

this was an easy decision for me-go with all the vaccinations. my only issue was that the doc wanted to do a schedule that had 5 vaccines in one day-out of the question in my book, so we break them up, one shot of three and then two weeks later, two shots. It's more visits for us, but it means that if she has a reaction we have a better chance of knowing which she reacts to.

the reason why there are none of these diseases is that everyone had vaccinations. now that many parents have opted out, we are all at risk. by not having vaccinations your children and others are at risk, including vulnerable populations like immune-compromized individuals, pregnant women and young babies who are too young for vaccines.

and a personal note: my sister and I cannot hold an immunity to chickenpox. We've each had it three times and are still not immune. We've had the vaccine and still no immunity. what is an annoying illness as a child becomes a life-threatening disease as an adult. We depend on individuals to have their children immunized. Without it, we risk our health. Now that I have a daughter, she will only be allowed to have friends over to the house that are vaccinated or have had the disease, just to protect myself.

anyway, it is each mom's decision and a difficult one for some, but each decision we make affects the community. There are risks to the vaccines (i don't buy the autism connection, but I keep up with the research too), but imagine what it must feel like to know that you could have prevented all the complications that result from some of these diseases. The more folks that opt out of vaccines, the more outbreaks, illness and death will result.

Just my two cents,

LisaCA
