What formula to use?
My husband and I are (hopefully and God willing) going to adopt a little boy who is due on Thanksgiving Day. I've been looking at formulas but don't know which to pick. They all have cottonseed and coconut oil in them and I had heard somewhere that those are really bad oils to eat as an adult so I would guess they are for a baby. Are there any other choices?

Where is everyone with this simple question???
Okay, forst of all the things that are bad for us are not always bad for the baby..... essential oils do help develope muscle. It is just like giving them whole milk when they are older---gee If I drank whole milk I would gain ten-pounds... but for the baby he needs the extras.... Babys usually don't have a problem with high Cholesterol and most of the warnings to adults about the oils has to do with this. I think most of the formula on the shelves is about the same... I personally, like the soy products because so many babies are lactose intollerant and the soy products are the only option. I also know a great deal of new science has come out and Soy is darn good for us (this year). Sometimes you have to see how the baby responds to the forumla you use..... One of my kids would sweat such a stinky smell that we changed his formuls because of it! So sometimes you have to use trial and error. Talk to your doctor too.... and check with your local hospitals maybe they will give you some coupons.

Hi lyoungwirth:
Great question. Formula is expensive so it makes sense to ask around about the different ones. Breastfeeding and/or formula are an option that many moms pick. There are different formulas. Last I recall their prices did not vary too much. Perhaps one may be a $1 less. I recall that some types mix easier with less lumps. Enfamil and Gerber had a great formula. And the soy formula was a great option as well. Sometimes in your local hospital birthing center or even your own doctors office they may have packets to sample. As far as I know forumula still stains clothing so you may wish to get your little cutie used to a bib. There are some great bibs that the little darlings cannot pull off. The bibs stretch over their heads. Such as special stage! Enjoy it whether you are supplementing with forumula or solely using forumula. I have heard that it is important not to prop up the bottle for the baby but to hold the baby just as if you were breastfeeding so that eye contact and bonding moments occur. Please let us know when your precious baby is here! Getting excited for you. Warm regards,

Start out with just a regular formula with iron- Enfamil with iron is what I like or if you choose the Lipil by Enfamil with iron. If this causes an upset tummy you can try Lacto Free or Pro Sobe (both by Enfamil) If tummy problems continue check with pediatrician. Just try around and find what you and baby like best. Best wishes.
