We may have royally messed up our chances to adopt again...
We have 5 children, the youngest was adopted from Vietnam 2 years ago. We are about to start our homestudy and we "pre-applied" to an agency and they said our former agency has to write them a letter stating that we are up to date on post placement reports. UGH!
Now...... I will let everyone know that when the last one should have been done (early this year) my husband was VERY ill, and spent over 3 weeks at Johs Hopkins ICU so I have a good excuse. My second excuse is....well....I forgot. Is there any way to fix this? I plan on calling the agency tomorrow and getting the report started but that won't change the fact that we are very late. Are there any agencies that won't ask for a letter to state this? Even if I do the report today, my first agency could never answer truthfully that we are "on time with post placement reports". I am not trying to get away with anything, I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions? We really wanted to pursue an older child adoption from Ethiopia so that is why I'm asking on this board. |

I'm of the school that honesty is the best policy. Explain to the new agency why you are not up-to-date. They may accept your reason (even the part where you simply forgot).
Good luck.

I don't see why this would stop the process. You may have to get the post-placement done ASAP, but that should be somewhat easy to do.
We're starting the process, and I hope our new agency doesn't request a letter about post-placement. We lived in a state that didn't require post-placement for international adoptions.

Were the post placements required by the placing agency, the homestudy agency, the country (Vietnam), or ??
I am just curious as our placement agency didn't require any, Guatemala didn't require any, and our homestudy agency only required one. So I keep wondering if it really is a big deal. I can kind of see more with a Russian adoption where the post placements are required by the country and can make a difference in the country/region staying open, but it seems to me they would cut you some slack under the circumstances if it was just for the homestudy or placement agency. I don't know so this is just my rambling thoughts, but I honestly wouldnt freak out yet. Good luck!
