HELP: Will we need to revise Home Study/USCIS application?

Our home study approved us for one female infant or twins.

Our USCIS application says we are adopting 2 children.

We have a referral for ONE baby girl, but now want to adopt 2 unrelated infants.

Are we going to need to amend anything??? I put an email in to my agency but haven't heard back, yet...

Thanks for your input!

You will usually need to have a home study that states you can adopt 2 children.

Congrats!!

Your homestudy will need to be very specific regarding what you are approved for. We had initially requested a girl 0 - 24 months old. We later decided to adopt an older child. We had to pay for an addendum to our homestudy before we were issued our 171H.

Since your social worker approved you for one child or twins they would most likely require an addendum stating the ages of the children and stating they could be twins or two unrelated children and provide an age range.

Could you contact your USCIS office and ask them what they would need?

You need to check with your home study agency. Hopefully they will call you back soon. Some home study agencies do not allow unrelated children to be adopted at the same time. I would guess that you would need an amendment to your home study since the two children you want do not fall into the category that you have been approved for. Best of luck.

Thanks, I am actually going to send an email off to USCIS and ask them. I'll post later what they respond with.

I can tell you from recent experience, that USCIS approves your I600A based on the specifics listed in the home study. Any changes that are made such as age of child, gender, a move, etc. requires a new home study (they will not accept ammendments any longer) be submitted to USCIS. They will then have to issue a new 171H approving you again based on those changes.

I talked to our USCIS just now. The woman I spoke to is going to check with the officer in charge because:

My home study approves us for one female infant, or twins.

The agency's approval states we are approved for up to 2 infants.

It may be fine as is. If not, then we may submit an addendum from our home study provider (approved by the agency) stating that since twins are not available, we would like to adopt 2 unrelated infants, and have been approved to do so.

Pretty simple!
Thanks for all your input.

We had to have some changes made to our home study and USCIS told our social worker that USCIS no longer accepts addendums. She was told that 'any' change to the home study required a new home study be submitted. I'll be anxious to hear what you are told.
