Dossier Question
Just curious, when you complete your dossier does it need to be certified by your specific State and then the Ethiopian Consulate?
I'm just curious if its the same type of certification process we utilized for our Guatemalan adoption. I'm sure our agency will guide us along once we are accepted into their program. We are just trying to figure it out... LOL.. Thanks!

This is another one of those things that is going to be different for every agency. I was required to have 3 documents authenticated at the state level and 2 documents authenticated at the federal level (and then stamped at the Ethiopian embassy in Washington, DC). I have friends who used different agencies and some had to have every single document done at state and federal. Which can get very expensive.

The instructions we received from our agency stated that all documents be notarized and the notary authenticated by the Secretary of State. Everything is then sent everything to the agency and they will have them authenticated by the Ethiopian consulate, translated and sent to Ethiopia.
I've found it to be pretty much like the process for the Guat dossier, just less documents.

Wow, that's different! My agency requires everything to be notarized, and the only thing that gets authenticated (at the State level) is the power of attorney. I thought all agencies did that basically the same way. That was one of the nice things about Ethiopia, not requiring stuff to be apostilled and authenticated.

One of the things about the dossier for Ethiopia is that all agencies do it slightly different. I hear it is one of the easiest international adoption dossiers though. I just tell people not to start their dossier until they pick their agency because their agency could be different then what other people's agencies require.

Compared to Guatemala, the dossier is super easy. I did mine in about 2 or 3 weeks. My agency did require everything to be state-certified but, as others have mentioned, some agencies do it differently.

I just had to comment. I agree that the dossier is easier than the Guatemala one. However, that being said, it has taken me FOREVER!!! I know that it is in part because I now have a child at home and didn't the first time and that has made a WORLD of difference. Also, it is like almost EVERY document we have had to have redone because of some kind of error. Oh well, we are almost done just waiting on a couple of documents to do with the homestudy. Just had to share my .02!
